Guinea Pig Care Starter Kit for Beginners: The Essentials | GuineaDad

Hey there, Guinea Gang! Today's video is for both new guinea pig parents & those who are still unsure if what they're providing for their piggies is enough.

Do you know what are the absolute essentials when caring for a guinea pig? Before adopting your piggies, make sure you have these prepared: a cage, bedding, hay, water bottles, hiding spots, and supplements. Of course, there are different types of those that you can see at pet stores, but unfortunately, not all of them are ideal. Products for small animals are sub-par (to say the least!) because they aren't as profitable as the ‘mainstream’ pets such as cats and dogs.

Since the whole GuineaDad team is committed to helping our small animal friends live their lives to the fullest, we wanted to share how our products will benefit not only them, but also you as their guinea parent. You can visit our website (links are down below) to learn more~

Any suggestions for the next video? Share your ideas in the comments~

Mentioned & Recommended videos:

Love GuineaDad's Nourish Series? Great news! We've added more items to the 'menu'! Our supplements have multiple health benefits and come in two sets: Marigold & Dandelion leaf, and Chamomile & Raspberry Leaf. They do not contain any additives or preservatives. As GuineaDad does with every product, we took the extra step of getting the human grade USDA organic supplement for piggies!

You can learn more about the products on GuineaDad's website:

Our Nourish Series Timothy Hay has been filtered through multiple steps so that dust, yellowing hay, and more is taken out to ensure your guinea pig only gets the freshest and healthiest hay! Check it out here:

We use our GuineaDad Liner and Crunchy Condo for floor time, it keeps the floors clean and the girls love it! Get yours at:

You should actually make up a pack(bundle) and say it’s a starter pack and put everything in it someone should buy and put it at a reasonable price that way when return customers come back and think I’ll get one or the other their pet liked and will be a more constant customer but everything you sell looks great

One issue with most Hay racks is: Guinea Pigs can get their heads stuck in the rack. GuineaDad hay racks are cardboard so it is highly unlikely to get their head stuck. and the ranks make a nice snack.

For the Guinea Houses, I'd suggest making a 1-1.5 inch cut on the bottom of the window to ensure of a piggie panics and dives through a window, (s)he won't get stuck).

Great video! My sister was just asking me what she needs to adopt guniea pig, since I was proud an owner of a 6yr old piggie but it’s hard to give advice when the pet stores already convinced them what they need. I’m definitely sharing this video. Thanks gunieadad taking the time to help us explain what is needed for a healthy happy piggie life

Regarding your comment about leaky water bottles: I have found that the glass water bottles (with metal straw) do not leak. I have switched my guinea pigs strictly over to the glass ones. When cleaning then, ensure to use a bristled pipe cleaner type thing to clean the metal straw from both ends.

I actually plan to pick up a 2x1 liner for my med cage. I have a huge cage my girls live it but they have some health issues so i needed a good cage to carry 1 or more piggies in for vet visits. So i made up a 2x1 C&C cage and have an extra water bottle food bowl and one of those small hay racks just for that cage should someone need to be transported. I actually just now remembered you had liners that size and it will be perfect for them.

A family member of ours ended up with surprise baby guinea pigs, and since she’s not set up for a bunch of little piggies we volunteered to take some... so I guess we’re going to be guinea parents now. You’re essentials guide here really helped, I’m much more confident in our (my) ability to provide a good home to these little popcorn nuggets.
