Seth, please never change how you say "Brotherhood's End" ❤️ It's one of the best "Against the Odds: Phonics" pronunciations in ages

I just ran a variant of this deck for a Pioneer 500 2 days ago! I found it's quite good into control decks (especially postboard), but just flops in the face of Rakdos and Mono W.

Quick tech. If you have a kumano in hand and your opponent is holding up wandering emperor mana, hold it. It enemy walkers. It's allowed me to recover from an emperor several times.

The lesson here is always attack and get damage in when you can playing against rakdos, losing a 1 drop to get 2-3 damage through is how you eek out wins. Watching Seth pass so many times is painful to watch.

At 16:19.. "what do we do about wandering emperor?" Immediately plays Faces pre combat...

Those odyssey mountains are one of my favorites. So glad I have a big box of odyssey/onslaught basics

It's so depressing to watch burn and monored in Pioneer. It takes until turn 2 to deal 3 damage. With the prevalence of Sheoldred and very few cost-effective ways to deal with it in the format, it only adds to the depressing state of the deck. It needs a reprint of something like Lava Spike or Rift Bolt to up the aggressiveness of the deck. It increases the chances you kill the opponent before they can stabilize with Sheoldred.

18:11 seth's disdain for control could be felt throughout the multiverse

1:02 You don't want lightning bolt in pioneer. That card tends to warp the format around itself wherever it's available, it just sort of becomes the default have-to-run for all red and forces a lot of creatures to be 4 toughness or better value parity.

I played almost this exact deck in a pioneer 1k recently, had strong showings against izzet and bant spirits but rakdos and mono Green gave me trouble.

19:55 and 44:12 you punt because if you have a soul-Scar and a swiffspear the awnser is soul-scar first always
because if you play
swiffspear first it turn1 you deal 1dmg turn2 cast soul-scar(summon sick) and a 1cmc spell to trigger prowess attack deal 2dmg so 3 dmg for you Creature in 2 turn
soul-scar first summon sick so no dmg then turn 2 cast swiffspear and a 1cmc spell trigger prowess attack with both creature deal 4dmg so 4 dmg for you Creature in 2 turn

it's not the most obvious thing in the world but for a red agro deck 1 dmg one turn earlyer is a big deal

I've also been having a tough time with Mono Red Phoenix vs Sheoldred (in Explorer) .
The card options aren't any better in Pioneer.
Lightning Axe is the most efficient but significantly better with a Phoenix.
Roast specifically does the trick in Pioneer (not in Explorer)
Burn Down the House has been the "silver bullet" for big creatures in explorer. Except there's a bunch of huge 6 toughness creatures too

Is there still a historic version of this

15:00 surely cremate is (almost) just strictly worse than cling to dust? certainly the one specific scenario where cremate is better isn't enough to run it over cling

I used to like Wizards-red quite a bit, but with time Viashino Pyromancer just got completely outclassed.
Bloodthirsty Adversary is just so many miles ahead in terms of power.

Mono-R wizards would get just so, so much better with a proper 2-drop wizard.

Ghitu Lavarunner is still fine, I think. The only wizard that really feels like it's well worth the mana is Soul Scar Mage, which I would play even outside of a wizard shell.
Since so many of the strong pieces of mono-R are no longer wizards, it's hard to justify Wizard's Lightning.

I understand that this is budget magic, so there are limitations, but I'm just contrasting with a time where mono-R wizards was a legit competitive aggro deck.

I think Wizard's Lightning has a ton of potential in UR wizards, though! Not only you get access to more wizards, but adding a couple of counters seems like it could go a long way!

This is almost exactly my pioneer deck except I do run Chandra, Dressed to Kill. It always gets me top 8 at local events, but I don’t think I’ve ever beat monogreen or angels sadly. The lack of good 4 damage is difficult to overcome.

This list is almost the 2021 pioneer challenger burn deck

At about 4:30 you play the Wizard with haste post combat instead of the one without in exile. Why?

Best answer for Sheoldred is probably Lightning Axe. It's the most efficient answer available for any mono red deck in the format. It gains bonus points if you pair it with Fiery Temper, but that card really wants other discard outlets like Fable to maximize the value. Wizards is probably just too restrictive to be anything other than a tier two strat in the current meta. But cheap is the name of the game, and this is about the best power to fiscal cost you can get.
