For everyone that didn't see The Fourth Phase... Everyone on their team was trained for an avalanche situation, safety and recovery. They tested different parts of the mountains and conditions were pretty good and deemed safe enough. Victor just hit a line on a new face with success. Travis was wearing a helmet. He wasn't wearing an ABS for the sake of the shot while filming, as well as, what was said before with the conditions seeming safe. Travis is very calculated when he rides, so is his team. They lessen the risks with their knowledge but mother nature sometimes has her own plan.

I've spent twenty-five years in the mountains, skiing, climbing, mountaineering, and it's only really now that I look back and see how many times I was in danger and didn't even know it. I guess I'm starting to realize it's been nothing but sheer luck.

Travis, I've seen that you been doing the avalanche training in some videos. I had no idea that you were in an avalanche. I differently will learn more about avalanches in the near future. Thank you for reminding everyone of the dangers.

And THAT right there ladies and gentlemen is why Rice is my favorite rider hands down. 100% . I do believe that was his second avalanche contact? First one wasn't nearly as huge, but still.

4-5 years ago I was on my first cat trip. I got caught in my own sluff, dragged 60-100 feet down mountain, threw some trees and finally stopped when i hit a bigger tree. Scary stuff. 1/100th of what took Travis. On the way up the guides were telling us to try to get to the side and try to undo your board. The board is like an anchor pulling you down. It happens fast, like he says there is not much you can do once you are in it. Some people are lucky and some are not. Don't put yourself in that situation in the first place. These guys are Pro's. They take calculated risks. Travis, Jeremy, Xav, Victor, Brian have all been caught in Avalanches and got lucky. Many of their friends have not. Training, gear and riding with people you trust to save you life help.

Skiers should always carry a dog biscuit in their ski-suit pocket. That way if they're trapped under an avalanche the rescue dogs will find them first.

@4:42, "As a community we need to come together and make a change."

WTF are you talking about? Do we stop riding? Do we petition to the mountains to stop avalanches?
