Americans Abroad Not a Normal Tourist

I like to visit unusual, out-of-the way places. When you live abroad, you get to see all sorts of places you might never see on a regular vacation. (Of course Covid has made this a bit more difficult...and you might not want to visit the place I went to here, as it's not for everyone!).

Here's another video related to my upcoming book Americans Abroad, about Americans who live (or have lived) outside of the US.

I live in the Netherlands and there is something I actually noticed. I live relatively close to some very well known tourist hotspots, like Kinderdijk in my childhood. And I think I have visited it about 1 time in my life, even though I could have hopped on a bike and reach it within a hour.
When we visit other countries, I think we are actually more likely to visit these tourist hotspots, then when you live near them.

But as you said, living in certain places give you much more insight in other (perhaps more) interesting places to visit, places you wouldn't necasarrily think of when you are passing through on a holiday. It is one of the reasons that for many foreigners, the Netherlands is no more than Amsterdam, because so many tourists just visit Amsterdam.

Belgium seems nice....really nice but the housing prices in Antwerp are out of this world.

I’m from the USA and this is now my second time in Mexico! And I totally agree! I’m staying for a month this to around and I have already seen so much more than I did my last trip!
Anyhow, I like the video! Hope you keep it up!
