Actually, I had a different idea about the true meaning behind this song- what if the narrator was singing not to another person, but to himself? As in, he doesn't like himself anymore, so he feels as if he wants to die. The song also references cutting, which is a common practice for many people who don't like themselves anymore. It would also make sense for him to be singing to himself, during the chorus of the song he references how he believes that there's no one else for him besides himself.

just got back from listening to Razzmatazz for the very first time and i immediately went to listen to some Brobecks tunes as soon as I was finished. You can hear the similarities and it makes me so so happy because i thought i would never get any more fantastic songs like this

The way I interpreted this song was that Dallon was referring to himself in third person and first person. Instead of referring to himself and another person that was toxic and abusive. I think he was referring to this toxic and abusive "person" as his own depressions and (possible) mental illnesses that were controlling over him as a person and making him despise himself.

He states in the beginning that "I used to have a pretty face and it used to be so commonplace" then continues in the chorus to say "I don't like you anymore". What I got from those lines it was, he used to think he was a genuinely happy person that wasn't just a pretty face even though he does have one. And he never had to worry over not being happy so it was common place. Then something horrible hit him and he's sad, depressed, ect. he hates himself so he's screaming at himself, "I don't like you anymore" while this depression is taking over him more and more.

Then time passes he's completely controlled by it, but no one notices because it makes him act okay outwardly. "Oh, don’t you think it's swell Oh, you look so fancy but I can tell" But he's thinking it should be gone by now and he should be able to move on. "You’re not getting on with your life You’re not getting on with your life" So he tries to tell himself he hates himself, then he wishes he would cut himself. "And I don’t like you anymore. And I don’t like you anymore. So just cut yourself with a knife. Just cut yourself with a knife"

Then he feels alone in life and the only person he's got is himself but he doesn't love himself, he has no one, he wants to kill himself. He wants someone to love him desperately. But he doesn't believe anyone can love him but himself but he doesn't love himself as is. "If you don’t love me anymore. I think I’ll kill myself. Because I’m sure as sure can be. There is nobody else for you but me"

This could be and probably is completely wrong. But I applied this a lot to myself and my hardships. So uh yeah...

I love the Brobecks, so much. Definitely isn't for everyone, the edge in this song is what makes it amazing. Upbeat and sad. It portrays a lot of people who you don't think are sad or depressed or have problems and then you get to know them and find out they do.
