As a mage main I always love facing Vale. Unlike some mages, like Kadita, who can still hurt while underfarmed, Vale won't even scratch you a bit.
Then again, even if you're at a gold disadvantage, his skills are extremely easy to dodge.
The thing is Vale is useless up to level 4, or even 6. No CC up to level 4, no damage up to level 6. So pick a mage that power spikes at level 1, 2 or 4 at most (most mages spike at level 4) and gank the lane with the highest probability of giving you gold from a kill.
Typical examples of a pre-level 4 spiking mage that cross my mind are Lylia, Kadita, Faramis, Valentina, Luo Yi or even Eudora (half their hp by 1 s2-s1 combo). Don't even think of picking Valir, you're gonna get outcleared so bad.
Anyways, if you're a good enough and experienced mid laner, you should know the ways of building that gold advantage. If you utilize that gold advantage, you can end while they're still building their 2nd core item, because what's a team with no mage?
Anyways, countering Vale is a mixture of micro (dodging his insanely predictable skill) or macro (outrotating and outfarming them to oblivion).

Kagura and Selena was exceptional but i don't fell like kadita would escape the knock up skill as kadita's first skill doesn't work while been stunned.

Kagura is the best counter for most heroes due to her insane damage ang free purify second skill.

When enemy picks Vale, I uses Kadita to counter Vale. As Kadita main, almost all heroes can be countered by Kadita. But having hard time catching good Kagura player.
