Speaking of Richard Feynman, it seems that Stephen Wolfram understands Eric Weinstein's theory better than Weinstein does - if clarity in explanation is any guide.

no offense to Eric Weinstein but you can tell that Wolfram is on another level than him. He explains his theory better than Eric does lol

I have no idea what Stephen is saying about this gauge theory stuff. I am pretty stupid though.

Wolfram: water is a tetrahedron
Chemists: those lone pairs are invisible sir

How are people enamored with Eric Weinstein? He comes across as insufferable and narcisistic. HIs brother, Bret, means well at least and wants to make a difference to help people. Eric.... wants the world to look at him

Until now I thought gauge theory was invented in 2020 as a manual for home defense.

Physics changed my life. I am not currently attending college but I can tell you that I love understanding and doing my own studies on the subject. It has helped me in so many I ways I think to myself all the time “how could someone not want to know this?” I don’t think it’s irrelevant at all, it’s the foundation of life In a way. I don’t mean to be hyperbolic but that’s how I feel lol.

I like it when Lex gets math/physics boffins on.
Keep up the good work.
Great interviewer.

To say that a “possible Theory of Everything is nice, but what would it be useful for, ” feels short sighted to me

What sort of computational power would be required to simulate the big bang with the completed hypergraph? How powerful *are* the servers running our sim?

Eric Weinstein is an interesting social commentator but his authority on physics has long since expired. I think Lex is enamored by Eric's bravado and paternal tendencies and that bias seemed apparent in this interview. Which is unfortunate because the person he's sitting in front of is, at the very least, a practicing physicist.

I don't know anything about fancy math, but saying someone's theory hasn't gone much farther than their Phd. thesis...seems pretty savage.

What problems will we be able to solve once we have a unity theory? What technologies will be born of that. Any ideas?

Bad crackpot theories that would never work.
Physicists don't their work seriously. Eric has literally zero citations on his PhD thesis. Think about that

So Stephen Wolfram and Eric Weinstein should both be invited to Lex. Let them talk for however long they want. We all know Lex has the patience to do this for at least 7 hours straight if the guests could last that long.

"We are very close to understanding how local gage variance works"... this interview was 2+ years ago. Any update yet? Lol😮

The thing is, a unified theory of physics would be a map, not a historical account like the tree of life. So you could argue that unlike learning about the origin of life, it's predictive about the things that aren't known yet. It would be pretty awesome if a YouTuber dropped humanities one-and-only theory of everything for the next years.

However, it's obviously unlikely. As Stephen says, it's easy to make a model that explains everything you already know. Then a new phenomena comes along and blows us all away.

Please have on Timothy Nguyen to discuss GU.

Any new idea about how the universe works at this level is a good thing. I hope this work can see some kind of peer review, or even just commentary from a physicist that can understand it.

Have the leaders of the world turned their backs toward science and the common good, for love of power and wealth?
