Fairy Shrimp! Amazing freshwater shrimp!

I went out herping one night in the woods in Pottstown Pa to film a video for Nature Now, after visiting our good friend Nicole. I found nothing other than the usual toads, spring peepers and other vernal pool critters. I saw a damselfly larva swim by so I picked it up for a closer look. Low and behold, it was a fairy shrimp! I was so excited to finally find these branchipoda after wanting to see them since I was young. In some areas they are supposed to be common but I have never found them before. They are about an inch and a half long and very neat to watch. They are an important food source for many birds and fish. #wildlife #shrimp #nature

Your footage is excellent, even those filmed in the wild! And the 1st one you caught it with just your hands, it just swam into the palm of your hand! Wow, how nice!

I’m in west Texas and I visit vernal pool regularly when we have rain. I’ve seen thousands of fairy shrimp and tadpole shrimp in the last few days. They’re so cool!

Thank you so much for sharing. I've been fascinated by those tiny creatures since age five. Here I am, age 52 and still fascinated. At the bottom of this video, at around 6:18, I noticed that when that male turns on his side, he shows that second pair of antennae you spoke of that he uses to grasp onto the female.

The blue coloration on the egg sacs and the green looking legs are so unique, I hope you keep a few of their eggs to grow more fairy shrimps

WOW Dude! I just got one heck of an education. I had never heard of these or knew about their details. Like learning about an alien species for me. Awesome!
