The people of Nikon have been waiting FOREVER for a d300s replacement, but is this it? Well this is and more! Introducing a newer processor, 4k video, touch screen, improved af and more this beast will be the top of the line. But at a cost of $2,000 bucks.

i think the pricing is more than fair. The Nikon D300 was originally a $ 2000 camera is this D500 is a far superior camera.

FINALLY A SUCCESSOR TO THE D300S! And a direct competitor to the 7D Mark 2!

You're getting the exposure metering and focus of the D5 (covering more of the frame) as well as other features for $5, 500 less (since it will actually transfer photos to a phone or tablet better without a $1, 000 transmitter). And some of us already have DX lenses (which I currently use on a D7000 which has seen better days) as well as full frame lenses which work fine on the D500. And it is more rugged than the 750 (which I also have) on par with the weather proofing of the D810. It will be a good upgrade for me from the D7000 as a second body.

All this while, people wanted 4K, more cross type focusing points, fatster shutter speed, more buffer, a swivel screen, touch screen, more weather when Nikon delivered....some are saying... this is not important, that is not important....what the heck?

I am very excited about this camera! The D500 will be an AWESOME Wildlife camera. FX Glass all the way... I really couldn't give two shits about the video features. Oh by the way .... the "Touch Screen" is just for zooming in on your photos and setting the focus point while in live view.

I've been shooting sports with a now old nikon d700 for a few years and bought a d300s with 100 clicks and 7 fps, from ebay this pass summer. it's great but I have been crying for 1 more stop of light while shooting indoor college basketball. My canon friends just shake their heads and smile condescendingly. So heck yeah!!, I am excited about the d500 with its 10 fps and 200 shot buffer for raw! I am just hoping I can wipe the slobber off my mouth and wait long enough to see if there are any bugs, quirks, or if there will be a d500s!

I'm debating this now because for the same money I could get it the D5500 and a 24-70 used and that'd be a significant upgrade from the D3200. 4K video is nice but I could hold out to see what Sony does later this year... I feel they will be ahead of Nikon and Canon still on technology. They also don't have to split up files to do 4K video...

Some of us with awesome FX glass wanted something like this for the extra reach or crop factor. The D7xxx series had problems and kinda of sucked. I believe this will be a great camera, especially if its built close to the same quality of the D300/s.
This body will give my 200-400mm f4 glass the 35mm field of view of 300-600mm at f4 and 1200mm with 2x teleconverter

It's an action camera first and foremost. its target will be sports and wildlife shooters who need the extra reach that DX provides. And for those photographer's the D500 is exactly what we've been hoping for!

I know this camera is a sports dream but I want to know how it will do for portrait. I have trouble with low light using my Nikon D7100. There's plenty of decent glass for DX, although I use a lot of FX lenses on my DX. For portraits, which is primarily what I shoot, FX isn't really a must have. I was looking at upgrading my D7100 with a D750 mainly for the better low light capabilities... until I saw this! Now I don't know what to do! Shooting mainly portrait without a studio, I often find myself shooting in someones living room where I can't do a full set up with lights and stands, or shooting a wedding where I can't use a lot of artificial light and the D7100 doesn't cut it. I want to upgrade to the one that will be the BEST camera of the two, and I don't necessarily believe that full frame, by itself, is better than DX. And is loosing the 4 megapixels going to make any difference in sharpness? Which of the two cameras do you think is the best as far as specs go between the D750 and D500?

I'd say the price isn't bad, they could've been worse but I do agree a few hundred lower and its perfect.

I want this.. and i own a D810. I want this just because there's no pop up flash and the view finder uses the full frame type. :p

I just replaced my broken d7100 with a d750, mainly for the viewfinder and grip. I kinda miss the pixel density of the d7100, and would have gotten another d7100, but also wanted a better focus system, metering, and the raw processing benefits of expeed 4. The d500 seems to address everything I want in a camera at a price point I'm comfortable with. Had this camera been announced last month when my d7100 broke, I probably would have gotten another d7100 (now just $600 refurb) then waited for the d500 fixes/recalls to pan out and the price to drop (usually in November). Personally not into video, so 4k is not important. I don't think the difference in price between dx & fx should be that much anymore. Basically, the fx price is too high, like the difference between this d500 and the d5 for bascially the same camera sans the sensor.

I was really excited to hear of a possible d300s successor but really it just sounds to me like Nikon is doing stuff no one needs. i mean who honestly needs 150 focusing points? Now granted im perfectly fine having just the one center focus point but for me if nikon wants my money they need to work on a new focusing system better than the old screw drive. Also some may like xqd but im already invested in cf so why should i change? Maybe im missing something here but its like Nikon now is just releasing a new camera cause they can plus greed instead of evaluating their cameras and seeing how they can really improve. Aside from a few things here and there it seems they haven't really done much innovating since the old d3. Also before anyone wants to bite my head off saying im a canon fan and idk what im talking about i am a Nikon user or really a user of any good camera if it seems feasible to own from a business standpoint. I mean really id be perfectly happy with a d3 and a canon 70d for video at this point. It just seems for all Nikon's recent innovations they are trying to make headlines rather than create features that appeal to photographers in real world situations. I haven't seen any Nikon camera i wanted to buy since the d300s but thats just how i see it.

Can't wait to get this for $850 in a year

The perfect camera for shooting action on a budget. Kind of have to look at it less in terms of the cost compared to a D610 or D750, and look at it more like a D7200 with ~twice the capability. As an action shooter, been waiting a long time for this. I like DX for the extra equivalent reach and have no interest in FX

Why didn't they put the connectivity features in the D5? Also, when will Nikon release a D810 successor?

$2000 in the US or £1800 in the UK. The UK get ripped off again.

(2000 US Dollar equals 1375.82 British Pound)

even the D5500 beats out 7D mark II, depends on what you are looking for

It always puzzles me when people go mad for a crap frame camera for thousands of €$£. Why not just upgrade to full frame? Doesn't make any sense.
