"When Thou, O Lord, Wast Baptized" is the Troparion (main hymn) of Theophany (Epiphany) in the Eastern Orthodox Church. This version is sung in Byzantine tone 1.

Byzantine Chant is one of the oldest musical traditions in the Christian Church. The roots of it lie in the Jewish Temple worship of the Old Testament combined with Ancient Greek music theory. One of the distinguishing characteristics is the use of an Ison or drone harmony below the melody. This Ison represents the uncreated light of God which shines throughout all creation.

Text:
When Thou, O Lord, wast baptized in the Jordan, the worship of the Trinity wast made manifest; for the voice of the Father bare witness to Thee, calling Thee His beloved Son, and the Spirit in the form of a dove confirmed the truthfulness of His word. O Christ, our God, Who hast revealed Thyself and hast enlightened the world, glory to Thee!
