This new Smart Key Lock is going to be really interesting. Weiser makes a similar product for the Canadian market. Kwikset is a worldwide product. Kwikset is now releasing a new SmartKey SC1 that uses the five pin SC1 Schlage Key.

The first few versions of the SmartKey Locks had major security flaws, the first versions could be forced open with a screwdriver, which one of the early problems where there are lots of problems with the Kwikset Smartkey Locks.

How to Rekey the Kwikset SmartKey SC1 Lock.
1- Turn the working key 180 degrees,
2- insert the reset tool in the slot next to the keyway until you hear the "click"
3- remove the key,
4- insert new key and unlock and lock.

Thanks! I hope these don't make it to wide production as this is just going to cause a lot of problems

So do these locks have a block in the tailpiece to stop a attack through the keyway.

We have been using this version of smart key for over a year. There are 2 version of the plug; deadbolt and knob. I would like to keep 10 of each in stock on my vans but have only been able to find small quantities in stock. These plugs can be swapped with Kwikset's electronic dead bolts if the customer already has Schlage on other doors.

Since the first one doesn't work anyways, can you attack it with your tool that you insert and use vice grips to twist to force the lock to open? That, or show how to disassemble it to reset it manually.

Thanks for your channel!
Since I watch my first YouTube video of you, I had some extra padlock keys made that didn't fit at a trusted locksmith small shop, they use a converted small trailer for a shop.
Problem was that the keys by Master lock was too thick for my lock and when I went to take them back, the shop closed an hour early, typical of the unprofessionlism of locksmithing in my city.
So far, I have learned a lot from watching you and will very seriously consider the locksmithing business, thank you.

I think what you’re doing by testing the stuff is helping all of us out as locksmith I watch your channel but I am at full-time locksmith in Indiana and then and I do appreciate what you were doing I think it is important to let the public know how cheap the stuff is built. And what the manufactures are doing keep up the good work I enjoy what you do.

You are the first person I’ve heard say that the SC1 SmartKey only works with max-6 Schlage depths. Ken Nixon did a review and teardown of this lock in April 2021 (“KWIKSET SC1 (Schlage) SmartKey“) which seemed to show it accommodating all 9 depths.

I can’t help but wonder if all of the locksmith reviews hating on the kwikset smartkey locks are due to a pretty obvious conflict of interest. Most of a locksmiths business is from rekeying locks. If there is a lock that does it easily for you, no need to call a locksmith.
I’m no expert, but I did buy 3 of the kwikset 660 deadbolt locks, solely for the rekeying ability, and all 3 were easy to find, easy to install, and easy to rekey. Schlage appears to make a quality lock as well, but the ability to rekey myself was a game changer for me.

Schlage is the last name of Walter Schlage it is a last name German. I just can't believe the stupid Allergen people can't pronounce the brand that they sell.
Research it,
