Understanding the Deflection of Beams

In this video I take a look at five methods that can be used to predict how a beam will deform when loads are applied to it. These are the double integration method, Macaulay's method, the principle of superposition, the moment-area method, and Castigliano's theorem, which is based on strain energy.

00:00 - Introduction
01:58 - Double Integration Method
08:19 - Macaulay's Method
12:07 - Superposition Method
13:20 - Moment-Area Method
17:24 - Castigliano's Theorem
20:26 - Outro

Never quit making these videos, your work is better than 40, 000 dollar University courses

If you would offer a complete course os mechanics of materials and structural analysis, I would be certainly willing to pay for it. The graphics and clarity to explain is outstanding.

Watching it with 4k resolution and the mathematical derivation of a practical event with different animation and silent effective background music...feels like heavenly study..!!😁

I should say I just love every video of this channel. As a mech eng student, those videos are just perfect for recovering old topics like mechanic of materials.

I really appreciate these videos. As a structural designer with PhD. degree in Concrete and steel structures at Technical University I have to admit with everything what have been said. It bring me back 15 years ago, but we weren´t explained this way like the video does. All calculus with integration approaching are explained in very simply but powerful way. Such a shame there is not many teachers at Universities being able to explore the world of structural mechanics by attractive way.

I am was reading though my mechanics of solids textbook not understanding a thing. You would not belive my relief when I looked this up and I saw that The Efficicent Engineer had made a video on the topic! I swear this channel has taught me my entire mech engineering degree so far.

You just don't know what a massive help this is for the viewers watching this. It just feeds you a whole chapter of the subject into your mind by just watching. Otherwise one would need to spend hours reading derivations in books that weigh a ton.

Even as someone who has already graduated and practiced this stuff, I love referring to these videos as a refresher!!

This channel make the best animations, colors, graphs, explanation, equations visualization than a 50 000$ per year university...for an engineering(environmental) student like me this is the best channel i found...you are doing high quality content bro!!

watching a short ine of your 20min videos gives me more insight into engineering principles than any lecture that I watch, the way you visually represent the content and then show all methods in a step by step fashion with clear and concise descriptions is unparallel thank you so much for this amazing content!

the best explanation!
did in 22 minutes what my lecturers couldn't achieve in multiple lectures!
amazing

you just explained this in 22 min so simply, it is taking me close to an hour of thinking, listening and writing. You are awesome. thank you very much. would you make videos on other topics such as shear flow ?
