Well now you have to watch “Urban Cowboy”.

John Travolta in "Urban Cowboy" is what made this song famous. It's a good movie you two could react to

You can't help but think of the smoky dark insides of Gilley's with this song.

Movie soundtracks were seriously popular in the day, Saturday Night Fever, Grease, and in this case Urban Cowboy, all three starring John Travolta!

Johnny Lee holds a special place in my music history. Back in either 1978 or 1979 I got in some trouble and did some prison time in Texas. Johnny Lee came to Huntsville and gave a concert for the inmates. It wasn't anything he had to do but he did it anyway.
All the inmates were loving it so he didn't want to stop. The guards were getting pissed but he just ignored them and kept playing. I'll never forget that if I live to be 100.
When you're in prison in Texas, a concert is like winning the lotto.
I was at the place where John Westly Hardin did his time. Interesting, but no fun. Back then Johnny Lee played at Gillys quite a bit. I hope someday I get the chance to thank him for coming and giving the inmates some music to enjoy. Thanks Johnny.

One of my all time favorites. Got to see him in concert once, on the front row. My favorite song of his is Cherokee Fiddle.

Johnny Lee had another guge hit with Cherokee Fiddle, which was also featured in Urban Cowboy. This movie singlehandedly defined a generation Johnny Lee, Mickey Gilly, Charlie Daniels and many more were featured in this film. Gillys (where the movie was filmed) was the largest bar in the world at the time.

Classic country. Watch “Urban Cowboy” that’s the way it really was cause I lived it!

That was one of my favorite songs of that era and I never watched Urban Cowboy until years later. That movie made western clothing sky rocket in prices.

That sound is made by the drummer tapping the rim on top of the drum while resting the drumstick on the drum head, and is called a rim shot.

Now that you’ve heard this popular tune from 1980, you should definitely see the film it’s from: URBAN COWBOY (1980), starring John Travolta, Debra Winger, and Scott Glenn, and based on some very real people and situations in Pasadena, TX (near Houston) that were written about in Esquire magazine by Aaron Latham, who wrote the screenplay with the film’s director, James Bridges. The film's success was credited for spurring a mainstream revival of country music. Much of the action revolves around activities at Gilley's Club, a football-field-sized honky tonk in Pasadena, Texas that was tremendously popular for many years (unfortunately it no longer exists).
