What does it mean to be a woman or a man? How is masculinity and femininity determined? Where do such attributes and characteristics originate? Are they natural; innate? Are they nurtured; constructed? How much of our identity is framed by our biology or society and what effect does this framing have on humanity? Let's discuss with a discourse on Betty Friedan's classic text of second wave feminism.

I'm male, and this book actually helped me unpack a lot of the "masculine mystique" as Friedan dubs it. It was pretty good for my mental health in that regard. Definitely recommend men pick up this book as well — Angela Davis talks about learning about all struggles because you learn how they're your struggles too and I've found that to be truer the more I've read.

Discovered your channel last week and pretty much have watched every video. You’re a brilliant reader, thinker, and explicator. Looking forward to more readings and sharings from you. (Please do some Angela Davis and Jacques Rancière’s The Ignorant Schoolmaster!) :)

it's interesting to note how COVID-19 might have stunted the progression of women and caused a lot to revert back to the 'housewife' narrative- particularly when there are so many robots to help with the work.

Neil!!! so glad to see you posting another video! mind blowing! to think of the role the market played in constructing the domestic career woman of the 60s (and as you said, in many situations today). I also think that a lot of these outdated identities are constructed as a result of the media and already im seeing changes in the way women are portrayed in film and tv. i think the reason its taken so long for this movement to erupt to the level it has is because of how comfortable women may have become in that role of domestic housewife. i'd defo like to read more on this subject in the future. i have clicked the bell button so i look forward to watching more of your vids! do you know what book you'll be doing next? more feminism? or something else? lemme know!
