Finger Monkey Worlds Smallest Monkeys

Finger monkeys or pocket monkeys, are from a species of monkeys called pygmy marmosets. They are the smallest known monkeys in the world, and cling onto the fingers of their caretaker. An adult measures only about 5 to 6 inches (127 mm) in length, excluding the tail, and weighs a mere 3.5 ounces (100g).
Unlike other primates, finger monkeys can be legally raised as domesticated pets in many countries, and in some states in the United States of America, but make sure to check if your area allows it. These tiny creatures, who are commonly found in the rainforests of Brazil, Peru, Columbia, Ecuador and Bolivia, can live up to around 20 years in captivity. They have a very special diet, of tree sap from barks of specific trees. Therefore, a green environment with lots of trees, is more suitable for them. Packed food and cooked meals such as chicken and rice, will work too. They can be fed with fruits, vegetables, arachnoids and insects as well. They can get bored of the same food, so a variety is encouraged, to keep them busy. When bringing a baby home, they need to be fed every two hours for at least two weeks. They are very playful, loving, and intelligent, as long as they are well cared for. However, they can have quite a temper. When angry, they tend to bite, but luckily, their bites are not harmful to even children.
There are several factors that need to be considered before deciding to buy a finger monkey and undertaking the great responsibility of taking care of it. Firstly, they are expensive and cost between $1500 and $8000, depending on the gender, age, health, size and breeder. Additional costs include a cage, leash, food, veterinary care and toys. It is not advised to keep them locked in a cage, as they enjoy large areas to play in. They are very social. They can get diseases like chicken pox, measles and cold sores.
