Lawmakers: Macon County ruling against gun ban statewide and Illinois State Police shouldn't enforce

Several state lawmakers were joined by the Illinois State Rifle Association arguing Friday's Macon County ruling the state's gun ban is unconstitutional is statewide and state police should make clear they are not enforcing the law.

The "rifles are not meant for self defense" is absurd on its face. Why do the IL state police and any other police agency have AR-15 rifles? Last I looked the police are not in the offensive assault business.

“Grenade launchers” are already banned under the NFA. So that reporter didn’t know what he was talking about. That being said I do not believe grenade launchers should be banned, anymore than the NFA should be law as it infringes on the 2nd Amendment.

It's interesting that the State chooses to argue that long guns aren't used for self defense as reasoning for being able to install a ban on them. Historically, long guns were more widely owned than pistols at the time our nation was founded since households had to hunt in order to provide food for their families. You were probably more likely to see a long gun above the fireplace mantle rather than a pistol. The primary flaw here is that the 2nd Amendment does not exist for self-defense. It was to prevent the United States from ever falling under tyrannical rule ever again by giving the people the right to bear arms.
But finally, if you look at the text of the 2nd Amendment, the "right to bear arms" is not limited by any designation as to type of arms. The state is obviously taking it upon themselves to define many things within this gun ban that are in direct contradiction to the 2nd Amendment and recent Supreme Court rulings and therefore, this ban is clearly unlawful...

People completely ignorant concerning the difference between a 37mm flare launcher (Legal) and a 40mm grenade launcher (generally Illegal and HIGHLY RESTRICTED where legal) asking and answering the important questions. Simply PRECIOUS! *Sigh*

Silly question. Until the court battle is settled at the highest court they take it to, it should be enforced.
This is how the court system works.
