This video was released on the 1 year anniversary of me leaving an abusive relationship. It was because of her bravery to share her story that I was given the strength to finally say enough is enough and to move on. That's why I feel so drawn to this album. It's timing, and speaking of healing. Not many artists hold special weight in my heart, but Twigs is one of them. Twigs, thank you for being you. In a way I owe my survival to you.

my favourite song on the album. the structure and progression is stunning - the blend of the heavenly soprano, subtle string arrangements and twinkly synths, contrasting against the tastefully auto-tuned vocals and abrasive production. everything is perfect. amazing and powerful visuals to accompany the song too. 💖

I think the message of this video is clear. old, "sad" twigs is killed by new, confident, freer twigs. she had to do it, just like twigs said, so she would fall in love with herself again, her body, the things that made her happy. this woman is simply art.

edit: i didn't mean "sad" twigs was killed in terms of an act of self-harm, I thought she overcame her pain and tried to forget bad things and grew even more as a confident and strong woman, which she has always been. :)

My interpretation of this video *

In this, Twigs is singing from the perspective of her weakened, broken, and vulnerable self. (White twigs). She keeps telling herself that she wishes she could get help from a higher force, which can translate to her past self praying or chanting to that higher force (god in example) to help her solve her emotional and physical wounds (traumas) in those moments of darkness that she had gone through. As she waits to receive the help from that force at no avail, she starts to slowly realize that only she can help herself. There is no better force than your own love for yourself and for your DESIRE to live. To want more from life and being able to pick yourself up from your failures. She starts to feel more confident, and less pity for herself. So her higher self starts to manifest as (Archer Twigs). As you can see, archer twigs has this “fed up” look on her face which can translate to her telling her vulnerable self “that’s enough self pity, you’ve suffered enough, it’s time to take the bandage off”. She rushes up the building/stairs aka (higher ground/self), and aims at her own heart, taking measures in her own hands. Also meaning that she is aware that her realizations in moving and toughening up is going to hurt a lot in the beginning stage of her inner healing. It’s time to kill her past self though. You can see archer twigs looking a little sad before shooting almost like she’s apologizing to herself for allowing herself to be in such emotional hurt and for the pain she’s about to inflict with the arrow aka (reality/truth). So finally higher self shoots at her own ego, metaphorically throwing it in the fire, along with her many sufferings. She has pain for desire, and love for desire though, Meaning she’s hurting, the process is very painful, but she still wants more from life. Still wants to live. Succeed. She’s down, in pain. But she’s also recovering. Because she’s now grounded to a better version of herself.

This is the manifestation of her ego death, she made a song with Kanye and others back then, this is the continuation of it. From her perspective. She let her ego down, and then she got back up.
