Sailing has been slowly becoming more tech forward each year...but I think 2025 is going to be a big leap forward. Because every piece of gear seems to be getting design upgrades, sensors and apps.
We made our way to the biggest show in technology when it comes to all things maritime, the Metstrade in Amsterdam. It's like the CES of the boating world and it did not disappoint! And despite our best efforts, we didn't get to explore everything we wanted to. But, that's only because there was sooo much to dive into.
There are new innovations in just about every single area you can think of. We found new discoveries in lightning protection, anchor monitoring, anchoring, rigging, and even sensors that can tell you when it might be time to replace your rigging.🤯

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WE’RE JASON AND NIKKI WYNN. A couple of explorers, modern-day documentarians, and cultivators of curiosity.

We’ve been chasing our curiosity around the world on wheels and keels since 2011. Why? Because curiosity is the key to unlocking life. It pushes us outside our comfort zone, softens our assumptions, and helps us embrace the great unknown. The more we let our curiosity lead the way, the more we discover about ourselves and the world around us.

Things We're Most Curious About...

GETTING OFF-GRID
Our home is also our transportation and we spend weeks away from civilization and sometimes land. So self-reliance and sustainable living are a must. We've learned heaps about renewable energy, managing waste, creating safe drinking water and foraging for food. We carefully manage our resources and we’re always looking for new and better ways to do so.

TALKING TO STRANGERS
People are busy (even on remote islands) and travelers are a dime a dozen. It takes time to talk to strangers, and even more time to have a real connection. Going the extra mile to get to know someone is a commitment.

Which is why these are our most treasured experiences. Setting off into the world with curiosity as our guide and nature as our compass. We talk to strangers and accept hospitality without fear or reservations. Both giving and receiving.

ALTERNATIVE LIVING
These are people who are doing things differently. Forgoing the mainstream, seeking freedom and living on the margins. Creative, unique and inspiring people who challenge our ideas of home and community.

Our journey is ever-evolving but the mission remains the same: #CultivateCuriosity

Thank you so very much, Nikki and Jason🙏 for stopping by our stand and featuring our VisionAnchor in your video. It was an honor to meet you in person, even if just for a few minutes. We really appreciate it! You truly made our day at METS, and seeing the video uploaded yesterday made our day all over again.

Hope to see you again soon, whether on land or water.
Take care!

I had a little chuckle at the conversation at 24:40 about electric leakage.

Fascinating. I am not a sailor, but a nerd. I love learning about the application of new technology. Very cool to see how advanced technology and materials are optimizing something as timeless as sailing.

Always thinking of you both Nicki and Jason, and really hoping for the best outcome for your beautiful boat. Well done fulfilling your episodes with the usual great content we have gotten so spoiled with over the many years. Fingers and toes crossed your wait isn’t too long before you set sail once again on curiosity!

Your sound is by far the best I've come across on YouTube. Even with the background noise, you come in crisp and clear. Makes it a pleasure to watch.

The likelihood of me taking up sailing is about as likely as traveling to the moon. That says a lot about how well you present your content that you keep my interest even in videos from a trade show. I’ve been a viewer since your early RV days and I look forward to the return to sailing (as I’m sure you both do). Keep up the great informative videos! 🎉👍

Ironic that my favorite channel is a sailing one 😁 I started following you as you transitioned into sailing.. it was your RV videos that caught my attention. The fact that living remotely is very similar to boat life. Solar is the key and conscientious consumption. Your positive attitude and dedication to teaching us something new each video is truly inspiring. Wishing you fair weather and following seas 🤗 on your own boat 🙏

I've been around boats for over 59 years. My years of experience have been in the fish/ski & houseboat on the lake. That being said, I had no flipping clue what you just said.🤣🤣🤣🤣
I still love watching & trying to learn as I watch y'all.
May God protect you on your adventures, my friends,
Chris from Missouri

Really enjoyed this video. I’m not sure I’ll ever need this info as I live in a land locked area and don’t do much travelling, but it’s really interesting to see just how much engineering and innovation are a part of making sailing easier and efficient!! I’d watch stuff like this from you guys all the time. Easy to understand for us non-sailing people. 👍🏻 thanks you guys!

Such a great video. There's so much to sailing. It was helpful to know the excellence of your rigging and see how careful you are with your sailboat home. As always, I enjoy your videos. Thank you! 🌺

Your boat is a sum of its parts, so cool to see the inner workings of Curiosity. Hopefully you can get back on the water soon.

I really enjoy learning about new tech for boats - I will have to try to make it out a boat show this winter/spring. I loved the discussion about battens - In windsurfing we use rectangular battens as well...whenever I notice a crossover innovation like this, it always makes me wonder which sport developed the tech first.
