why does it matter to calculate adjacent values when you can just evaluate each point and just use the maximum?
maybe there's another example missing here where calculating adjacent points is better than going through each one, e.g. a hundred vertices

why tracking all those adjacent point one by one? Why not just plugin all the extreme points and see which is the largest/smallest?
