And this is the reason why I can’t be a sociopath. My rage towards people isn’t worth ruining my own life over and I’ll gladly spend a decade planning your demise for you will have forgotten you did me wrong whilst I have not. I will have planned it out in detail as to not get caught because my reputation towards people is at stake and I don’t have a need to reveal my disorder in real life.

I do however recognize people’s suffering through cognitive empathy just like sociopaths would. If I wouldn’t be able to recognize people’s suffering, I wouldn’t be able to calculate a fitting demise of what would hurt said person best.

No, psychopaths are really good at noticing others suffering. Better than NT's. Great at cognitive empative, tho zero feelings about it. Imo psychopaths are more thorough with blending in than sociopaths -and noticing suffering is crucially vital to accomodate and not fuck up socially.

I have BPD and I can relate to some of the things you say. I definitely can’t relate to everything though, I do not struggle with empathy, I only struggle with empathy when I’m manic. I also have severe anxiety, it actually prevents me from even socializing all together.

Psychopaths and sociopaths are the same thing in the DSM. The diagnosis is antisocial personality disorder and really does not distinguish between the two. Now there is a list of sociopathic and psychopathic traits but these traits can belong to anyone including someone who does not have this disorder. But as far as being specific labels for people there is no specific list of criteria. My favorite distinguisher that I have heard is that sociopaths are made and psychopaths are born. This makes the most sense to me personally. The difference being that a psychopath has a damaged brain that was like that since birth or maybe an early brain injury. There was never a chance they would be anything else. That part of their brain that is responsible for empathy and all of that stuff is just either not working or very very weak. Where you might say a sociopath is created by very early very severe trauma. But this would really have nothing to do with the behavior you see on the outside. That could still look anyway for either type of person. What a person is capable of doing when they have antisocial personality disorder is almost Limitless. However what they actually will or won't do depends on their personality and their lifestyle I believe

The biggest difference between the 2 that really matters is that psychopaths are born where as sociopathic people are created.

psychopaths can recognize human “suffering”, we just don’t care nor pretend to in order to appease what’s socially acceptable. cognitive empathy is a thing that both psychopaths and sociopaths have. i couldn’t imagine burning bridges and ruining my career for petty revenge. i’m glad i’m a psychopath lol.
