40 years ago today, Bono married his soulmate, Ali.

1982. Dublin. It’s the morning of the wedding. The summer hit “Come On Eileen” is playing on the radio, and a 22-year-old Bono prepares to make a forever promise, one he isn’t sure he’s ready to make.

Illustrated by Bono, this unique animated piece features his recording part of a chapter from his upcoming memoir, SURRENDER: 40 Songs, One Story. Out November 1 and available for pre-order now.

In ‘SURRENDER’ – out on 1st November – Bono writes about his remarkable life and those he has shared it with—from his early days growing up in Dublin, including the sudden loss of his mother when he was 14, to U2’s unlikely journey to become one of the world’s most influential rock bands, to his 20 years of activism dedicated to the fight against AIDS and extreme poverty.

The title ‘SURRENDER: 40 Songs, One Story’ refers to the book’s 40 chapters, which are each named after a U2 song. Bono has also created 40 original drawings for ‘SURRENDER’ which will appear throughout the book, and also feature in this animated video.

What a beautiful tribute!! An absolutely wonderful and brilliant story. My husband and were married on August 30th for 21yrs. Now knowing Bono and Ali were married on August 31st, makes my marriage to my husband extra special. I know its not the same day, buts pretty darn close. 40 years married is a huge accomplishment! My husband and I got married at age 22 as well.
20 years ago, I jumped on a flight from Toronto to Glasgow to marry my secret Glaswegian boyfriend without telling anyone 🤫🤫
