Having been runners-up in the 1974 European Cup, Atletico Madrid reached their first Champions League Final 40 years later. Diego Simeone's side overcame Jose Mourinho's Chelsea in the semi-finals with a 3-1 aggregate win. Their victory meant that they would face neighbours Real Madrid in the Final in Lisbon.
