Great video as always, Eric! Pointing indoor cameras out the window is a great idea.

Eric, how about a video to show how to integrate non-home kit devices into home kit, do you recommend Home Bridge/assistant, or something like a Hoobs hub? Thanks

Honeywell Prosix also supports homekit and is a security system that can be monitored.

The best advice I'd give a new home owner is to avoid all these different hubs. Get Thread and Matter enabled devices and try sticking to one or two brands as much as possible. Having Aqara, Lutron, Hue, SwitchBot, Google, Amazon hubs is a headache waiting to happen. I have mostly Hue and Eve devices in my home and the footprint/load on my home network is very minor and my smart home is extremely stable. Also, when you establish a strong Thread network, you no longer have to worry about IoT devices constantly going offline cause of bad WiFi reception. Stick to Thread over HomeKit or Thread over Matter devices and avoid 3rd party Hubs as much as possible. I have over 50 devices on my home network with two Hubs. The Apple TV which just so happened to become a hub, and a Hue Bridge hub for my lighting needs. Everything else is Thread enabled and my network is rock solid and I'm not constantly troubleshooting bad apps/3rd party software or connectivity issues.

Interested in security cameras that work with HomeKit secure video. I like your idea of mounting a camera indoors pointed out a window. Thanks for sharing!

Hey Eric, hope you and the family are well. One of the things definitely that I’m focusing on in building. My smart home is security, especially smart locks and outdoor video cameras. One that I’m actually looking at at the new EufyCam S3 Pro.

Great video. What soil do you use for your ZZ plant. It's gorgeous.

This is right on time. After almost 9 months, we’ll be moving in our newly constructed home in late October. I’m definitely getting an Ecobee Premium thermostat. It comes with a nice rebate through Comed. I just ordered Smartwings roller shades for the entire house as well. I still haven’t figured out what type of security cameras I’m going to get. We have Vivint at our current house and I know for certain I’m not using them in the new one. I have been looking at the Eufy S3 Pro but will have to do more research to see if it’s worth buying.

Yeah, we're deeply Apple around here but I want more control so I think we're going Apple HomeKit with Home Assistant

Eric,
Great video.
The one point I would like to make is that most of us starting our smart-homes don’t have your budget. Your product choices are definitely at the top of the food chain, like…Ubiquity, Lutron, and Phillips Hue. I wish you would consider creating a video with an alternate selection of devices that work with HK. I am finding out that Aqara is becoming a one-stop vendor for almost every smart home device anyone would need in their smart-home. Yes they have gaps in their product line, like light switch variety, but Inovelli fills that gap nicely. Light bulbs is another weakness, but Nanoleaf is a great fill-in. Their upcoming outdoor camera, garage door opener, and shut-off valve, will be a big boost in those categories. Aqara products are reliable, economical and best of all HomeKit compatible. There is something to be said for the stability of having an almost homogeneous environment to cut down on potential smart home issues.
It would be great to get your take on such an alternative strategy.

Hi Eric, thanks for another great video. Glad to hear you discussing markets beyond North America, especially as we’ve just moved to Europe after 23 years of New England. Having just moved into a home that already had several systems in place, I concur with one of the other comments that it would be useful to learn about your thoughts on integrating non-HomeKit compatible products into HomeKit. Back in the US I used HOOBS to integrate nest thermostats into HomeKit and now I find myself challenged with older Honeywell Wi-Fi thermostats using TCC as well as a EUFY robot vacuum. I’m also wondering how good Eve Matter smart plugs work: my first experience in that they’re great if they are near AppleTV but not so good on pure WiFI… Hey, fancy a trip to Amsterdam to come and have a look?!!

I am looking for outdoor cameras but there are not a lot options. Eufy has a few, but only from the previous series 2. That's disappointing, why is there not more?
