You Bet! - A Retrospective

In 1988, a brand new game show would broadcast its first episode on ITV, joining the ever-growing line up of incredible weekend shows and transforming Saturday nights forever, and that show was You Bet!. In this video, we take a retrospective look back at this exciting game show, exploring its origins, some of the memorable challenges that kept audiences on the edge of their seats, the celebrities who took part each week and the profound impact it had on the 80s and 90s television landscape.

Wow - Thank you for giving 'Wetten, dass...?' and the hosts Elstner/Gottschalk so much credit! I didn't know the show had international copies. Normally it's the German TV that copies US and UK shows.
'Wetten, dass..?' was THE show to watch growing up in the 80s and 90s. It was such a huge thing when absolute top of the tops world stars like Michael Jackson, Madonna or Take That visited the show. Since the show was produced by German, Austrian and Swiss national TV stations, the show was shown in all 3 countries simultaneously. Imagine having like 6 channels and 3 show the same show. But that's how it was and it was great.

Nothing beats 90s Saturday night TV. You Bet was definitely a favourite from ITV with Big Break my favourite on BBC 1.

This period of Saturday night tv was a golden era for me. I was 10 in 1992 and still remember You Bet. It was the days before Sky/Cable and there seemd to be something refreshing about having only 4 channels to choose from. Saying that, shows like You Bet would last 2 episodes nowdays

What a great show this was. One of the most memorable challenges was the guy who served an egg breakfast with a JCB. Incredible precision and skill.
