The ontological question at the end was the most interesting to me. I think Knobe is quite insightful. Interesting though, that the thought genealogy is traced back only to Locke. Perhaps in Western Philosophy, but the East has a much longer tradition and many gifted thinkers who have shared volumes of thought on the notion of impermanence and the illusory nature of self and essence at the core of phenomena. Perhaps noumena have essence, but I'm with Kant on that one. Only phenomena are knowable. Noumena "exist" for us only in concept.
