Reforming The Tax Code: Blueprint for America

The primary goal of America’s tax code should be to raise the revenue to finance the necessary functions of government in the least distortionary manner possible. Tax systems with broad bases and low tax rates are the most effective foundation for an efficient, growing economy. While consumption taxes are efficient, all forms of taxation should be considered as long as they are revenue-neutral and accompanied by rigorous, enforceable spending controls.

The statement that the majority of American workers pay marginal tax rates of over 60% is not true. The top marginal income tax rate in the US is 37%, and only a small percentage of workers pay this rate. The average marginal tax rate for all workers is much lower, around 25%.

Taxing consumption is generally considered to be a regressive tax, meaning that it takes a larger share of income from low-income earners than from high-income earners. This is because low-income earners spend a larger share of their income on consumption than high-income earners.

If you don't have 2 minutes to sit through the video, it's essentially "Stop making corporations do things!!! It's the GOVERNMENT'S fault that we're not hiring! What's that? You say we're not putting enough resources into actual hiring because of course we aren't, we're corporations, and if we can save money we totally will? Oh, sorry for not being "politically favorable." People having jobs, that's "politics" and therefore not a problem worth taking seriously."
