NASA released the first proper images from the James Webb Space Telescope on July 12. They included the spectacular views of the Carina Nebula, the Southern Ring Nebula, Stephan's Quintet, Webb First Deep Field, and the spectrum of hot-Jupiter planet WASP-96b. But they were not the only Webb images that NASA captured.

The space agency has released new images of Jupiter taken by the James Webb Space Telescope during the commissioning period. This video explains those images and why astronomers were excited to see them.

As much as i love Jupiter and such, there's many active missions to that planet right now. What you forgot to mention is that JWT will heavily focus more on the Ice Giants rather than the Gas Giants, as Jupiters and Saturns proximity and brightness is too sensitive for JWT. Aswell as the Ice Giants holds the key to many mysterious outside and inside the Solar System that has never been studied before. This project will be held by Heidi Hammel

Just a one minute exposure! It's pretty good then.

Not only stellar but the last mystical place in our world alongside our sea & oceans. So much to learn and then learn some more. Breathtaking images of my favourite planets, Jupiter & Saturn.

When a thing launched my nasa actually took a snapshot of Jupiter almost as good as the voyagers. Blows my mind

I think it's an artifact of some kind, but the geek in me wants to say...it's a monolith! MY GOD, IT'S FULL OF STARS! I'm sorry Dave, I can't allow you to do that 😆. Ah vintage movies. That one's even older than me.

Are we all just going to ignore the fact that there is there is an oddly-shaped body on the left side around the equator?

The telescope can peer 4.6 billion years into the past so looking at our planets would be like snooping on our neighbours through a telescope 😁 . Great information as always . Thanks . Wonder why Jupiter's red spot is shrinking 🤔 . Hope Europa mission provides us answers .

Looks like someone used Windows Paint to smudge over top of the 'dots' on the left side of Jupiter 🥴

Going through the comments I'm surprised some of these people don't regularly forget to breathe. It's like they're barely paying attention, if at all. Sad. You deserve better.

I'm wondering why Europa is black on the photo, with light surrounding it. It doesn't really make sense to me.

Bro What is the difference between astronomy and astrophysics? Which has good scope and good job opportunities? Who get more salary?

Upsilon Boötes double star, 7 planet system, planet 6 from the sun. Diagram checked twice by two separate, this is a place to be watched.
Proxima B is another place with possible intelligent life.
Expect it.
