Judy's one of my favorite actresses, too! Besides the ones you mention, I also love "The Solid Gold Cadillac", which was a Broadway play, originally written for an older actress, which was refashioned for the younger Judy to play, and it's a wonderfully funny film. Judy got the role in the Broadway play "Born Yesterday" when original star Jean Arthur left the production. Judy had won a theater award for a supporting role in "Kiss Them for Me" on Broadway and was called in as a last minute replacement, learned the role pretty much over a weekend, was a smash and played the role on Broadway for over 1, 000 performances. While I love the other ladies who were up for the Oscar that year and they are all great, Judy's Billie Dawn is probably the most consistently hilarious performance in the history of film that ever won a leading Oscar (and she's also quite touching and moving at times in the role as well).

"Bells Are Ringing" was written for her by her friends Betty Comden and Adolph Green, who had started with her in the nightclub act, The Revuers, along with the music by Jule Styne. She actually won the Tony Award that year over Julie Andrews in "My Fair Lady", another classic performance. It's interesting that while Judy's characters tended to be some variation of "dumb blondes", usually she ended up being the smartest and wisest person ultimately in nearly all her films. Luv her!
