My MacBook Air wasn't really "bricked, " but after another software program was installed and it restarted, it refused to accept my PW (which I DID NOT FORGET). Morgonaut, my M1 MBP bricked the other day because I erased the OS from disk utility instead of system preferences like you're supposed to. You saved me potentially hundreds of dollars in repair costs with Apple because my warranty just ended 3 months ago 😸 Cheers!!! TYSM. Used a healthy M1 Mac Mini to fix it

What you also can do (when you have a seemingly empty SSD or a partition you cannot access anmymore): Go into recovery mode, select the Disk Utility, click on Partition, click on the data partition, select APFS or any other format you want and reformat that partition. This will create a new container disk for Big Sur or newer to install to. After this, a disk wil show up to install to when using the reinstall Big Sur option on M1-based Macs. Hope this helps a couple of people as well! :)
