Part 2: clutch in mash the accelerator bring the revs to redline, then off the clutch, yank the handbrake up then down back on the accelerator and apply full steering lock, to park a car perfectly every time

To make this smoother when the clutch is down, touch the accelerator to just raise the revs (just by 1K or so) then the clutch has less to do as the revs are already higher when dropping into the lower gear

If you change down under those circumstances it is generally to aid a burst of acceleration or perhaps to climb a steep hill. Under those circumstances you raise the revs slightly during the downshift so that engine revs match road speed in gear that you are engaging. That gives a smooth downshift and negligible wear on the clutch. I am an advanced driver and this is always taught on advanced driver training.

What a lot of people forget is that this video is aimed at beginner drivers who are just learning to drive. The best way to downshift is of course rev matching/heel and toe, but that would be too complicated and overwhelming for a beginner. Another thing is that he purposely does it slower so it is more clear and easy to see how he does it

Accelerator rev matching has left the chat.

I always take 300 meters between my gear changes

The more you drive the car the better you get. I track an frs and you learn what rpms each gear likes at speed. Cheers

I think rev matching should be a mandatory skill that beginners learn in their driving lessons. The early it’s thought the easier it will stick

If you're at a steady speed don't move the throttle at all ... then clutch in, change from 4th to 2nd, clutch out ... simple! Just alter timing of clutch release to match the natural increase of engine revs (due to holding steady throttle).

I really wish manual was the norm in canada so i could have learned it sooner. I appreciate the videos

Your videos are so helpful right now I feel like I know how to drive even though I haven't yet tried

one of the things my instructor didn't tell me but I had a pain to learn, it was my biggest issue when starting driving !

If you want to use engine braking do not skip gears on the way down. Foot off the accelerator, switch to third at the appropriate rev point, then do the same to second.

Pro tip, grip it and rip it, if you end up drifting you get bonus points and also for launching a piston into space

If u actually want to know how to do it then all u have to do is put clutch in, change down a gear then bring clutch slowly up to the biting point, once u r there u will feel from the car that the clutch is no longer engaged and then u can take your foot off clutch and at the same time u get that feeling of the clutch disengaging then u put the accelerator in and that gives u the perfect seamless downshift.

Anyone who says rev match heel and toe THAT IS NOT NECESSARY for daily city drivingm its just extra work and the wear wont be crazy high if you dont rev macth its mainly used in racing so that you could shift gears fast and drop clutch as soon as u shift and so that accelerator pedal is ready to use immediately if u need it without the tires losing grip with the road

Downshift with a quick rev to bring the revs up to the point the car doesn't jolt, slow down or increase wear on the clutch unnecessarily
