'Way Down Upon The Swanee River', served up with their usual musical expertise, by the Robert Shaw Chorale. From their 1959 album 'Stephen Foster Favorites'. ***Lyrics Below***

This was written and composed by Stephen Foster in 1851. It is the official Florida State Song.
The first two verses are performed here. Soloist is Grant Williams, tenor.

Way down upon de Swanee Ribber,
Far, far away,
Dere's wha my heart is turning ebber,
Dere's wha de old folks stay.
All up and down de whole creation
Sadly I roam,
Still longing for de old plantation,
And for de old folks at home.

---Chorus---

All de world am sad and dreary,
Eb-rywhere I roam;
Oh, darkeys, how my heart grows weary,
Far from de old folks at home! ---2nd verse---

All round de little farm I wandered
When I was young,
Den many happy days I squandered,
Many de songs I sung.
When I was playing wid my brudder
Happy was I;
Oh, take me to my kind old mudder!
Dere let me live and die.

---Chorus---

I'm from the Philippines and I used to hear my father sing this beautiful
song when I was a little boy. I still remember the words until now.

I am from India. I knew the song since I was very young and used to sing it with my late father. I am old now but hearing the song now brings sweet memories and nostalgia of my childhood. I love the song.

My late mama who died at 92 used to sing this song in her mother tongue. This rendition brings sad emotions and tears to my eyes RIP Mama.

Foster captured the sound & feelings of antebellum America & the RSC treats his repertoire right.

You're so welcome, hovanti--thank you for visiting. Uploading these has been sheer pleasure--I get to listen to the music again and again. Wish there was more from the RSC.

Best Regards,
David

I like Robert Shaw Chorale doing Shennandoah, decided to try this, and it can grow on you, it reminds one of Gone with the wind! Perfect timing to contemplate the sincerity! Th U for posting ❤🌹❤
