Uninvited Guests | Norland - Part 3 (Crusader Kings Meets Rimworld - Early Access)

Norland continues and we have to deal with a few uninvited guests turning up in CupboardVale. OK the guests are Kings but they just show up, two at a time, and expect to be entertained!

Fortunately we have King Bernard to turn on the charm and do some nice chit chat, plus we also can call upon Jeff's new wife Safa to help because she's also quite charismatic! Initially it seems out guests are having a nice time; they explore CupboardVale, play some games of dice and even have a little lute session in the hall!

Unfortunately our two guests also seem to clash with each other and tempers flare a little, with one guests leaving in a state of depression. Oh dear.

We struggle to get people to join our alliance but everyone seems very keen for us to join theirs! We of course decline but do need to improve our military, so we build a training ground and attempt to improve the economy so we can buy more weapons for our soldiers.

Also there's a slightly sinister altar, the Unholy Horde emerges and is that the pitter-patter of tiny feet I can hear?

The Empire has fallen, leaving in its place multiple successor kingdoms. The lords and ladies of these petty kingdoms squabble for control and influence – whether with cloak and dagger or sword and shield, families feud amongst themselves and against each other as greater threats cast a shadow across the land. Famines wreak havoc on the lives of the peasantry, warfare and disunity threaten the social order, noble families fall to decadence and hedonism, and beyond the borders of the old Empire, great armies of pillage and destruction form under the banners of invader-kings.

In these uncertain times, you must lead your small kingdom to greatness – and the members of your noble family to survival – in this medieval colony sim focussed on generating stories of great valor and vile treachery.

The common folk of Norland are the backbone of any kingdom, serving their noble lords on the battlefield and around the city with deference and loyalty… until their bellies become empty or the beer runs dry. With different backgrounds, needs, and thoughts of their own, the peasants are difficult to please and easily manipulated into rebellion, crime, and controversy – will you address their complaints as a benevolent lord or answer them with the executioner’s ax?

Norland is set in a rich world with a vibrant past – its inhabitants form a tapestry of different cultural backgrounds with checkered relations, and the power vacuum left in the wake of the Empire’s collapse has given rise to uncertain times. In the distance, an Unholy Horde grows ever stronger, pillaging and burning all in its path, while elsewhere the Church of Saint Sophia uses faith to maintain an iron grip on vast resources.

Through a multitude of scenarios to choose from and a plethora of options that define your nobles and the world around you, Norland allows you to build a society and tell a unique story of any kind – warmongers with penal legions fighting for their freedom, highly educated religious zealots trying to spread the faith, wealthy multicultural idealists hoarding tomes of knowledge, treacherous spymasters plotting assassination and intrigue… what tale will you tell?

The trouble with giving away the rings is that the person that you give them to usually loose’s them playing dice then becomes unhappy again, there is an option somewhere that you can tick that stops them playing dice and other things you don’t want the characters to do 👍

if you build the temple you can get coronations for every new king, weddings for every time youre lords wed and funerals for the death of lords

It really helped my financials to sell books after we read them because the lords can share their knowledge through conversation or write books for the others. Books sell for a lot!

Your tax is quite high. Maybe you've hired some people at high skills? I don't remember if you read it but they recommend hiring low skilled people and training them because their cost won't go up

I agree, the games balance isn't great right now..

19:59 that was the wedding ceremony 😅 21:50 Also, Safa got the knowledge of Hop Fields and Beer from Cedric, the message quickly vanished, so it was hard to catch
Are you playing with an older version? Because there was a patch that the neighbors have a weaker army at the start of the game and that they will buy simpler products that you can produce.
And the better you make the characters at the start of the game, the older they are and Betty already started pretty old (for medieval times), I guess that's why she is already in menopause.
But the fields look great, hopefully it will jumpstart your economy.

Strange - when your army gathered to fight the fleshwolf the value of the equipment increased to 555, but after defeating the fleshwolf the value of the equipment plummeted 🤔

Btw im pretty sure the Suzerain is the overlord

If a country is a suzerain of another, they are the ones in charge

I think anyway

When you panned over to Betty and Bernard and Cedric was just in there with them, I literally spat my drink out I was laughing so hard, also I think betty can't have children anymore because she has menopause.

Are you possibly still paying out for the mercenaries?

Its quite easy.
You need one king with good manners running around and pleasing other kings.
Then you need one good at trading to get the good deals and earn tons of cash.
The thirst should manageall your production buildings like workshop (!) and paper mill.
The fourth is for warfare and the fifth is free for your personal preference.

26:30 NOPE DRAGON HORN IS THE VASSAL OF LAKEHOLD. thats why you know dragon horn exists and isn't blacked out. the crown symbol symbolizes being emperor or suzerain of another province. I hope you realize how the political map works. because you've been saying a lot of mistakes.

I know conquest isn't very lovely, but I don't think peaceful alliance is in the cards.
