The thing is people want all the recent "legends" to be icons, we are talking about 30 or so players of the last generation(10 years or so). Then you look back and you see that there are like 60 icons in like 60 years of football.

There are some heroes that should be turned into icons tho like Lucio who won every important trophy
Papin who won a balon dor and won a ucl and was good all his career
Rudi voler who was good all his career and won the World Cup and ucl
Sneijder won a treble was 2nd on the World Cup and was pretty good all his career
Yaya Toure 2 he won a sextuple benching 2nd best pique and some times benched Puyol he was so good at city
And litmanen and rui costa shouldnt have been downgraded they were very consistent rui costa was compared with zidane 2
