It’s crazy how when you cast people who can actually sing and get directors that respect the art form of Broadway, you get a good movie… go figure…

Rather than a narrative split in half, like many 2 parts are, this feels like a complete story with an upcoming sequel.

Being neutral and liking it is one thing, but my wife and I have been Wicked fans for 20+ years, and I was ready to tear it a new one, limb from limb. We both absolutely LOVED it! Somehow, they pulled it off - BRILLIANTLY!

After buying that 5K TV I can’t afford to go to the cinemas again for the next 3 years.

This movie seems to be winning over more than just musical fans. I'm interested.

I actually cried watching this tonight. I grew up doing theatre and had so few characters to look to; Cynthia Erivo was SO good in this role and the subtext about her acceptance hit me deeply in ways I haven’t felt watching other musicals. I am excited for part 2.

It’s great to hear this has a lot of practical sets, I too thought it would be a heavy cgi mess at first glance lol

We got Chris Stuckman trying to sell $5000 televisions before GTA 6.

I’m with you Chris! I’ve never seen the show and I’m not really a musical person either. I was only looking forward to this movie because Ariana Grande I won’t lie. However, this movie blew me away I cannot express how amazing it is. Of course Ariana did amazing but I agree Cynthia did such a fantastic job! I really felt for her character and I cried so much. An absolute fantastic movie I still can’t believe.

Honestly, you don’t have to be a fan of Wicked or musicals to be blown away by this movie - it is absolutely incredible, and if you are a fan of Wicked, you will already be excited for part 2! The time flew by - and I struggle to sit through long movies, but I was captivated from beginning to end!

Love Chris' final thought "if you have a closed mind, keep it closed. If you have an open mind, youre probably going to enjoy this"

The 2 hours 40 minutes zipped by so quickly, it felt like onky 1.5 hours, filled with laughter and tears. Looking forward to Part 2.

As a Wicked fan for nearly 20 years, i was stoked and nervous for this movie. It far exceeded my expectations. There is so much detail in every second of the movie and it is clear how much love went into this. They really understood the source material and built upon it beautifully. The scenes that were not in the musical added something special or deepened the story. I am now glad they split it into 2 movies so they could add all the touches that they did. Phenomenal acting and vocals. The choreography is outstanding and fun. If you loved the musical - GO! You wont regret it. And the ending 🤯 I have chills just thinking about the end of Defying Gravity!

I saw it in Dolby as well at an early screening last night (thanks Amazon Prime) Although this IS made for me (a musical fan who grew up with the OZ book series & has see the stage show) it can be enjoyed by many. The film (Part 1) is the same length of the ENTIRE stage version but this allows for breathing room between songs, more transitional moments, & tiny bits thrown in from the novel. For Part 2 this will be important for a show that on stage goes at lightning speed where some characters reach an end destination without us seeing the steps to get there. (no spoilers here just in case) So between the easter eggs to the original sources, some incredible performances, & direction by Jon M Chu that is truly beautiful this has so much to offer & is truly an EVENT FILM.

Why are people complaining about the TV ad? Have you ever seen a TV ad for a low-end model?

Glad to hear this; I'm a musical theater fan and usually film adaptions are hit or miss. Wicked is one of my favorites but after what they did with Cats I was concerned. You are one of my favorite reviewers, I agree with you more than most so usually when you recommend something it doesn't disappoint.

And they sang it all LIVE!! I gasped when I heard that. This wasn't all recorded in a studio, then lip synced. Honestly, I'm not a big musicals fan either so I was considering passing on this film - but I've seen so many outstanding comments, learned things about the film, how it was. made, the deep friendship/relationship that developed between the two leads -- that I really am excited to see it!
