The reason for no trailer footage in this video is that this is a film distributed by UNIVERSAL and they have been engaging in unethical practices in regards to copyright claims. They've claimed footage of my face as footage from their movies. And when I appealed, they said their claim of my face was in fact footage from their movie (Jurassic World). For that reason I'm avoiding using any of their footage in my videos.

The thing to remember about the whole trend of "misunderstood villains" is that Wicked basically started that trend. All the Disney live action remakes trying to make the villain seem redeemed is because of how massively popular Wicked was. Wicked, however, tells that story about 9000x better than most of the stories trying to copy its trope.

Hopefully this leads to a lot more people checking out Jon Chu's previous movie, "In the Heights". It was dumped in the middle of covid so it didn't get nearly the recognition it deserved. Awesome music with a stacked cast (Anthony Ramos, Melissa Barrera, Corey Hawkins, Leslie Grace)

Act I in the musical is how she becomes “The Wicked Witch”. Act II is how the other characters become what they will be in the Wizard of Oz( you meet the people that will be Scarecrow, Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion in act I even if they are unrecognizable until partway through act II) and the Wizard of Oz from Elphaba’s PoV.

I would argue Wicked actually kicked off that trend. Movies like Maleficent were direct responses to the popularity of the book, and then the show.

Seen it yesterday, it’s definitely a 8/10, it’s the best broadway to movie adaptation since Chicago definitely

At this point, my expectations are much higher for Wicked than Gladiator II. That would've been crazy a month ago.

I saw it in an early screening last night, and I was hoping not to be disappointed....I left delighted beyond what I thought was possible. I am 68 and was raised on the Wizard of Oz as being the yearly tv event that younger people can not understand today. I was enthralled and thrilled with the extra material that shows things alluded to, but not shown in the stage play. The first half was a bit slower than the second, but I never felt like it dragged because the action and the pacing builds as we go on and magnificently ends on a gorgeous cymbal clashing crescendo that ends the film. I was delirious and had tears of joy in my eyes as the credits rolled. I don't expect everyone to be as in love with the material as I am, but I believe that this will delight anyone open to musical fantasy movies. I havent seen a movie in a theater for a decade because of the expense and rude actions of today's movie patrons, so I choose to wait for streaming usually...plus at my age, if the movie lags too much, I fall asleep often while watching movies at home...so I wasn't sure if I could make through a 2 1/2+ hrs movie in the theater with comfy seating...I had no problem with that, as the time flew by. When it ended, I didn't want it to...I can't wait for part two and will definitely see it in a theater (although $25 for a movie is OUTRAGEOUS! LOL)

Just in case someone hasn’t given the warning: the book is completely different from the musical and movie. It’s darker, sexier, more philosophical and political than the musical and movie. It is not a book for kids it is definitely for the more mature young adult/adult audiences. Overall a great read. Just vastly different from what you’re used to if all you know is the Broadway musical and/or movie(s). You have been warned.🙂

I saw it last night. It does the stage play musical justice. It had so many Easter eggs from the Wizard of Oz, stage musical, the book, and some surprise cameos, music, dancing sequences, cinematography. The two actresses Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande owned their roles as the witches. The whole cast and crew I think did an amazing job. My husband went to the play with me and also to the movie last night. It was funny because it was mostly women and a couple of guys in the theater. I think most of the guys were going to Gladiator 2 and the women going to Wicked. But when he's not interested in a movie, he goes outside for a lot of smoke breaks and leaves early to go get the car. He stayed until the very end To Be Continued on the screen. Will probably see it again with mom, sisters, nieces that want to go.

I am not a musical fan but I am a Wicked fan. When I was in 3rd grade, I was getting really badly bullied and I had no one to celebrate my birthday with.
My parents took me to see Wicked cause they knew it would empower me. It has an impact on me I couldn’t even imagine I related to it in a way I haven’t really related to a lot of things in my life. I am in a completely different place in life 15 years later haven’t seen the musical since cause of how impactful of an experience it was for me. I have been iffy on this movie cause the trailers looked like shit but after watching this review, I will watch it.
Crazy how things work. I was autistic, low muscle tone, speech delay, severe ADHD, dyslexia, sensory defensive disorder just to name a few. I worked hard on myself harder then anyone can imagine and 15 years after the play, I have an amazing social life, good financial success, great with the ladies, and just happy in general with a lot more to come.
All these years later I can say I defied gravity

We've gotten some great musicals post COVID: West Side Story, Tick Tick Boom, In The Heights, Wicked, even Wonka and The Hunger Games prequel were pretty good

What excites me for part 2 is part 1 (act 1) is really straightforward compared to part 2. Even though, a LOT happens. Act 2 covers much ground, so many intersecting stories but in the stage show act 1 is 90min, act 2 is 60min so the second act feels like a race to the finish and you don’t get a second to really sit with any of the plot beats before it goes to the next. If you don’t feel like Part 1 had unnecessary padding, I think you’ll be in for a treat in Part 2 when there’s even more going on.

I see you with that green lighting. 🧙🏾‍♀ I've seen the musical many times and read the novel. My eyes and ears are ready!

This movie is really the act one of the play bit by bit but the songs are more well realized and dynamic. The only real padding or expansion per say it's Elphaba's childhood which are very short scenes, the Madam Morrible's spell lessons which are also very short and the subplot of the animals is expanded upon and given much needed time on top of new scenes entirely. I think the animals subplot will take center stage in the second movie because the play somewhat overlook it in act II but it's a big part of the book and I think they'll bring proper closure in movie part II. But that's pretty much it. Great review btw.

As someone who had never seen the stage play and just not a big fan of musicals in general, I thought this movie was amazing. Both Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande just did a phenomenal job. It made me excited to see part two next year.
