Hainan Trip: How to See the Entire Island in One Day

I can never get enough of Hainan, the tropical island in China. I've been to Hainan three times so far this year. If you only have limited time, how do you get the most of it?
This time, I took Hainan high speed railway, the world's first circular high-speed railway around an island, challenged to tour around the island in one day. I picked four cities that can represent Hainan the most, from east, west, south and north. Thank @Eric_Garrison for joining the epic-long day!

What a beautiful place! I had the pleasure and honor of living on Hainan Island from 2003-2005 and 2006-2007. I have visited this wonderful place many times since! I was just there last month. My wife is from Sanya and I bought a house for her in Sanya. I use to live and work in Haikou. It very clean and beautiful. And the Hainan people are very very nice!

What a beautiful location. The beaches look so clean, I'm surprised they're aren't more people there. And that water! You can see for centimeters and centimeters which is why you saw a fish. If I was ever lucky enough to ever get there, I think I would just die, just die.

Hi, Abby. Indonesian here. I went to Hainan in 2019 and visited Haikou & Sanya. I was solo, I don't speak any Chinese. I didn't take a booked group tour like many Indonesian tourists do.

I had a great time in Haikou, then took the high speed train to Sanya (then going back to Haikou's Meilan Airport). I regret for not spending longer days in Sanya, I love the city! Sanya is where city, sea, river, and hills meet. I was blessed to have 2 Couchsurfing members in Haikou, accompany and guide half of my trip there. Unfortunately, I was on my own in Sanya.

Please make Hainan more English-friendly. There were no locals speak English to me, except the hostel staff. We communicate each other by body language and calculator.

Where did they let you swim in Sanya? I went to so many different beaches and none of them let anyone swim in the ocean, you were only allowed to put your feet in...it was really disappointing
