DCS P-51D 3 Wheel Landing and Approach.

If you are having trouble landing the 51, I suggest learning how to land a plane properlly in something like X-plane or MSFS first. Not just getting it on the ground, but learning the basic flight principles of approach and landing. The single biggest problem I see with peoples P-51D videos are two fold. 1. Don't fly the plane into the ground (that goes with most planes). You use your throttle control to gain or lose altitude and pitch to control speed. You should have a good AOA on approach and use your throttle to decrease or increase your altitude. I'm flying at about 100 mph on last moments of final before flare at which point I increas my AOA and reduce throttle at the same time or just before flare. Secondly after throttle reduction and speed reduced to the point where the plane won't lift off the ground if you pull up a bit, pull back on the stick to lock the tail wheel to a maximum of 5 degree steering while slowing down on the runway. If you can land a cessna on a proper approach you can 3 wheel land this. 2 wheel landings for touch and go are a bit trickier, but it's mostly practice. The biggest probelm IMO is practicing the wrong principles over and over. If you get the principals correct, the plane just takes a few practices to get the flight characteristics of the plane down.

Hi, this is a three-point landing (a smooth one!).
On the opposite, a wheel landing is achieved by touching the two front wheels first and then letting the tail wheel comes down slowly as the speed dies off. This requires some dexterity and an approach with a bit more speed than for a three-point landing.
