Perhaps I am naive or- in a less polite way- a stupid: I think Kelly- at the beginning- wanted to stay with her sister and she was telling the truth. When Brenda went to Paris her feeling became more powerful.

Brenda wanted to go Paris she was dropping hint to her Mom and probably encouraged Brenda to go to give them both a break cause their relationship was getting too much dramas and with Jim on their back always. I think Dylan wanted to take a break or something it was getting too overwhelming the poor guy..
