Thank you for this post. Doctors and nurses are emigrating from other countries. Provinces need to step up and allow them to become qualified to work in this country much quicker that is currently allowed.

I believe it well-recognized that this kind of problem (read "disaster") has been generations in the making. There is no easy or quick fix, but I'm not seeing those in authority even wishing to broach the topic, and the population feels (quite rightly) powerless. So, this will not suddenly self-correct. I have further thoughts, but will stop there for now.

We have similar problems in Quebec, where I live. The underlying problem is demographic. I once read somewhere that 80% of the total health care expenses that are incurred in an average person's life time are incurred during the last year of their life (that number should be checked). We are really paying for death care. With the aging of the population, it becomes increasingly difficult to finance the health care system. I suspect that many government have silently decided to under-fund health care so that people simply die out waiting for care, instead of receiving expensive care.
