What's sobering is how apathetic people seem to be about this and the last assassination atempt. Have we become so cynical as a country that political violence can just fade into the news cycle like mass shootings and foreign wars? Like it's just another bad thing that happened in a long unbroken chain of bad things?

Maybe it's just something about Trump and his rhetoric. Like people have adopted a "play stupid games, win stupid prizes" mentality about him. Either way, normalizing this kind of thing is a bad sign for the health of Democracy.
