Man, this girl knew exactly what she was doing. She was like this throughout the whole entire movie

I love that Sabrina was in this movie. Most actors might shy away from this kind of topic .

It's amazing how Amanla Stenberg grew from her role in the Hunger games. It's nice seeing her get huge roles now!!

Makes perfect sense. Because, when I buy a 12-piece fried chicken combo my first instinct is to take a piece and throw it 20ft in the air

What I thought would happened:
starr: “..piece of fried chicken?”
“Yeah”
Starr: **starts aggressively chomping on the ball**

I’m not gonna lie when I say that I pretend the ball is whatever food I’m craving during practice and games. It honestly really helps you get the ball-

As a black person, I found that funny Star just needs to stop taking everything so seriously 😭

For context:

The movie is called “the hate u give” (in the title of the short it says that) and there’s a book also. Starr has a childhood best friend Khalil who she witnessed get shot and killed by a white police officer. He was reaching for a hairbrush in the car but the police officer assumed it was a gun. The story got national coverage and it was hard for Starr being the only witness, and knowing him all his life, to hear everyone around her saying he was a thug, drug dealer, and gang member.

Starr attends an all white school because her parents want a better/safer environment for her. Her best friend there, Hailey, was stereotyping her that all black people like fried chicken in this clip. This was during the whole investigation. Hailey also doesn’t know her connection to Khalil, and took the police officer’s side, saying things like “I feel so bad for him… what? he has a family too.” Also calling Khalil a drug dealer and hinting that he possibly deserved his death. Hailey also says to Starr “I guess you’re not getting over it anytime soon.” There’s more… when arguing about the hairbrush, Starr grabs one and says to her, “this looks like a weapon?” and Hailey says “in your friend’s hand, yes.”

So no this isn’t an example of being over dramatic or whatever. In the movie she is racist.

There’s a lot more that happens in the movie I left out of this summary (because I just focused on Starr and Hailey’s friendship) and I suggest you watch it.
