In AC75 sailing, "high mode" refers to a specific sailing strategy or configuration where the boat is set up to sail at a higher angle to the wind, prioritizing height over speed. This mode is typically used when the goal is to point closer to the wind (upwind) rather than achieving maximum velocity.
When sailing in "high mode, " the boat's sails are trimmed more tightly, and the foils may be adjusted to create more lift, allowing the boat to maintain a higher course relative to the wind. This mode is particularly useful in tactical situations, such as when a team needs to maintain a windward position over an opponent or navigate through a specific part of the racecourse.
However, because the boat is sailing closer to the wind, the overall speed may be slightly reduced compared to "low mode, " where the focus is on maximizing speed by sailing at a lower angle to the wind. The choice between high and low mode depends on the tactical needs during the race.

Proud of the team, keep up the good work etnz

Great win, any mistake will be capatalised on at this level. fingers and toes crossed that the Crane incident doesn't ruin everything. Have to be serious questions on how it happened. You would think that everything at that level is locked down tight and that all the lifting gear is top notch along with operators etc, so for this to happen is a serious breakdown somewhere. I demand answers!😝🤣

Forget the race please our prayers and good wishes are needed now.
This team will have the yacht back in the water and going quicker than before .

Smooth move lads. Luna Rossa, don’t get your hopes up.
robinhodgkinson
Not only are they the quickest horizontally but after the crane incident they have best VMG vertically! Go ETNZ!

The faster boat might have a more optimized foil configuration and sail trim, allowing it to maintain a better balance between speed and height. This could result from more effective use of the boat's hydrofoils, reducing drag and increasing lift, or superior sail trim that maximizes aerodynamic efficiency.

Nice call Nathan and Burling. Very nice call.

LR went slow after the tack and doing a double tack with a dirty air was hard. Impressive racing
MrVorobus
Fantastic! Sorry about the sabotage after though. Good to know Kiwis are comeback kings though aye.

Absolutely Amazing overtake ..As worthy as A Greg Murphy at Bathurst Or Scotty or Shane ..
Brilliant watching these Boats sale Hard and Fast ..
Nice Job ETNZ ...I'm sure we can come back from Sabotage..😂

Only one team can do it. he knows how to race to win. Peter Burling

Two super fast boats. This overtaking was due to the horrible tack made by the Luna Rossa crew. The boats were too close to try a cover. The race was lost by the Italians, their boat is at the same level as Taihoro right now...

Just after this Speed pass, We took our boat out of the water to give it a scrub down, & THE CRANE DRIVER DROPPED OUR BOAT ONTO THE WHARF "WTF"

Poor Jimmy I feel sad for him.
YEAH RIGHT

I don’t get how the high & slow mode overtook Italy.. is it cos we can put the disturbed air on them? But didn’t they have disturbed air on us to begin with?
watcharakulworasarn
The Italians had 500lbs of pasta on board and were overloaded.
ronmexico
well done NZ, but thinking about it, maybe strategically LR decided to do only half race, whats the point of having NZ in the challenger round if not only for their benefit...perfecting the ship with the help of the challengers?
francescodebartolo
Seems to me more an huge error by Luna Rossa, they made an unuseful tack before and the following tack just too late.
