In this video, I will show you around the beautiful country of Morocco, specifically the city of Tangier in Morocco. We meet some of the friendliest people on our journey here in Tangier and eat at some of my incredible restaurants in Tangier. When you're visiting Morocco be sure to visit Tangier in Morocco. Most of the people in Morocco told us the city of Tangier was the closest thing to Europe than most cities, find out in this video to see why that is.

Thank you for choosing Morocco

For the information, there's no Spanish influence on tangier, actually it's the opposite, what you see in Spain especially Andalusia it's the moroccan influence during the Andalus area

We moroccans pay on average 10 dh for a let's say a Latté. 8 or 9 dh for a simple espresso. Now if you go to the touristy cafés then you are paying atleast 50% more. So my advice is just choose places where you see only moroccans. Sometimes the distance between tourist and non tourist cafés/restaurants is just a street or an alley away. Another advice is when you shop for things go first for a random item (which you are not interested in) then later on ask for the price of the item you are interested in. The sellers watch the first item that catches your eye and that's the item they will be less keen to lower the price cause they know it's the one you really want. (That's moroccan bargaining 101).

First off all welcome to the Kingdom of Morocco
You should know that Moroccan empire have been staying in Spain for 8 centuries and our influence in this country and also in all the west side of Mediterranean sea is much more important than the Spanish influence in Tangier that also exists.
Never say to a Moroccan that he's Spanish !
Enjoy your trip

I was waiting for this episode, so happy that you made it to Tanger! My roots are from Tanger but I was born and I grew up in Germany. I just wanted to drop a comment and let you guys know that the white dress with the green fessi design for 80€ is actually a pretty decent price. Fessi design is usually hand made, and it’s a bridal dress for occasions like henna evenings. It’s true that you always can bargain a little but 40-50€ for kaftans and takshitas is very unrealistic. Tanger is an expensive city in general but the prices regarding kaftans are mostly the same. The tunic for 12€ is just a fabricated dress what explains the price point. You actually pay up to 4000-5000€ for a Designer Kaftan or Takshita and you can buy one or let them being made for 300-800€. Just thought I’ll update you guys about the prices of these traditional Kaftans so you also know what to expect and have an indication! You guys have to go to the playa and to the Ibn Batuta Mall next to it! The area of the kings palace is also one of my favourite to have a nice serene walk at! I just stumbled upon your channel a few days ago and I love your content! I’m super keen about the next videos in Tanger! Greetings from Hamburg ❤️

I hope U enjoyed your time here with us 💜
But a quick reminder you're getting things a little wrong cuz Al-Andalus was a Muslim territory that existed in parts of modern-day Spain and Portugal from the 8th to the 15th century. The name "Al-Andalus" is derived from the Arabic word for "the lands of the West." The Moors, as the Muslim inhabitants of Al-Andalus were known, were primarily Berbers and Arabs from North Africa.
Thank you for the reminder about the influence of Al-Andalus on Spanish architecture. Al-Andalus was a medieval Muslim territory that stretched across parts of modern-day Spain, Portugal, and North Africa. The Islamic culture and architecture that flourished in Al-Andalus during the 8th-15th centuries had a significant impact on the architecture of the region, particularly in southern Spain. The Moors, as the Muslim inhabitants of Al-Andalus were known, introduced new architectural techniques and designs, such as horseshoe arches, ornate tilework, and the use of courtyards. This influence can still be seen in the architecture of cities like Granada, Seville, and Cordoba.
During the time of Al-Andalus, many cities and towns in Spain and Portugal were renamed by the Muslim conquerors. Some of these names have been retained to this day, while others have been modified or replaced over time. Some examples of cities in Spain with Arabic names include:

Granada: The name "Granada" comes from the Arabic word "Gharnāṭah", which means "pomegranate". The city was originally known as "Iliya" by the Visigoths before the arrival of the Moors.

Almería: The name "Almería" comes from the Arabic word "Al-Mariyyah" meaning "The Mirror". The city served as an important port during the Islamic period, and was a major center for trade and commerce.

Córdoba: The name "Córdoba" comes from the Arabic word "Qurtuba", which means "the city of Cordoba". It was one of the most important cities in Al-Andalus and was the capital of an independent Muslim state during the 10th century.

Seville: The name "Seville" comes from the Arabic word "Ishbīliyyah", which means "City of Lions". The city was an important center of trade, culture, and learning during the Islamic period.

Toledo: The name "Toledo" comes from the Arabic word "Ṭulayṭulah" meaning "The Watering Place". The city was the capital of the Visigothic kingdom before the arrival of the Moors, and it served as the capital of an independent Muslim state during the 10th century.

These are just a few examples, but many other cities and towns in Spain and Portugal have Arabic names that reflect their history under Muslim rule. These names are a testament to the lasting influence of Al-Andalus and the Arab and Muslim cultures that shaped the region for over 700 years.
I hope you enjoyed your travel 💜

14:45 to point out, about the Jellaba.. I'm originally from tangier and I know well those streets, there are Jellabas that can go up to 400€ over there. It's pretty normal for moroccan women to buy jellabas around 80€. I know there are made in Morocco but that, doesn't mean is cheap, it takes a lot of time to do a pice like that, and the good ones are made by hand. I would say the silver chain was a rip off (because silver is very cheap in morocco), but can't say the same about the jellabas.

glad you're enjoying your time <33 just wanna clear some confusion about language in Morocco,
Moroccans learn arabic in school but we do not speak it, we have 5 main languages, 3 are pure Amazigh, and 2 are unpure Amazigh with arabic vocabulary and it comes from the influence of Arianism and later Islam, and those are Darija, widely spoken nearly everywhere (with various accents ofc), and Hassaniya in the southern provinces.
Darija heavily resembles medieval Andalusian, and is mistaken for an Arabic dialect because it can be written with arabic script just like Urdu, Kurdish, old Turkish etc.., and the closest language to Darija today is 🇲🇹 Maltese. but after the arabisation of Morocco that happened from the 60s to 2011, the official languages of Morocco are only Tamazight (universal pure amazigh), and Arabic.

oh and the Phoenician civilization is just a myth, they were only sailors that were active in the Mediterranean and were not called Phoenicians.

I want to thank you guys about the positive feedback about my beatifull city. I really liked how you never complain 😂. So i want to answere a couple of your questions, about the expo 2012 it didn't went to tangier after all it was held in a city in korea, tangier was just one of the candidates. Secondly the expansive jelaba in the old medina, honestly i'm no expert in artisnal stuff but i was not surprised espacially if it's hand made and made of expansive material, my father sometimes will buy a male jelaba for over 80€. finally about that guy in the hercules cave he was trying to say if you want to take a picture with that traditional millstone that was over there but good for you you dindn't understand him it's not that intersting 😅. I really hope you guys enjoyed the whole stay here. Take care!

It seems like tourists still have the old idea that morocco is cheap. It is no more the case, it is not like the world gotten expensive but bypassed morocco. Food has gotten expensive, so expect to have a a decent balanced meal for 2 or 3 euros. If u want to eat cheap you are not going to get a decent meal, you will get a lot of starch

thank you guys for visiting morocco and my city tangier, you are so lovely and i'm glad to tell you that it was Morocco that influenced Spanish architecture, not the other way around, and i have to tell that a basic and very normal quality jellaba cost me usually 80 to 140$ (coutured) and a high quality jellaba can cost you 500$ and for the one in the video it can be 80$ minimum
