Is It Any Good? | Branston Pickle Review

I've long heard of this and seen it on the shelves a few times and have finally brought a jar home. It certainly sounds like it'll be good based on the label but does that come across in the actual taste? Let's find out!

Glad you liked it ! The original Branston pickle recipe was owned by a distant ancestor of mine who sold the recipe to Cross and Blackwell sometime in the early 1900's.

Yes, yes it is good, absolutely fantastic stuff and I love it, you can not go wrong with a cheese and pickle sandwich.

You might need to do a follow up episode on Piccalilli. Branston have a version of this. More of a mustard relish, with chunks of veg.

They used to do a sweet chilli version which is sadly discontinued. I've seen various Americans try it and they have mixed reactions with some loving it and some hating it.

Its called Branston as it was made in Branston on the outskirts of the famous brewing town of Burton on Trent . Get the small chunk variety if you can as its better on sandwiches . Oh yes, please try it with real cheese not that processed stuff you had .

I prefer the small chunk version. I find the bigger chunks harder to spread in a sandwich, gets a bit too fiddly for my liking. And I also think the bigger chunks are overpowering. Small chunks are good though in a cheese and ham sandwich. Cheese and pickle go very well together, they’re a match made in heaven. 👍

I love it with Laughing Cow cheese or cream cheese on a bagel. My first impression was that it tasted similar to Heinz 57 and a sweet Worcestershire sauce. Found it at Publix Supermarket in Florida.

I just found a jar of this in my kroger, on sale so i picked it up. I always saw it in the grocery stores in the UK when i visited my fiance there, and wanted to try it. I like it quite a bit! im a big fan of savory foods/umami and this satisfies that craving.

I have a slight notion that it is the quintessence of savoriness. May I never taste it to find out actually you know on the right thing it might be quite good. Some sort of meat sandwich. James May just had a sandwich with this and spam and a little butter.

They do different versions, I prefer the small chunks as it’s easier to spread in a sandwich…..also no one eats this on its own so that “spoon” test you did was just wrong lol
