Awesome and informative lecture. I started a ketogentic diet nearly a year ago, with a surprising effect: no more anxiety! I feel so liberated after 20+ years of suffering. Keto for life!

MSG was the cause of my three decades of anxiety. I finally figured it out and am better now. Three decades of being told I was bi-polar (despite never having a manic episode - shrinks are friggin idiots). Last week I mistakenly got some glutamates in my diet (the cheese biscuits at Red Lobster use torula yeast instead of MSG, but my body responded the same). It took about a hour to induce my anxiety and a couple days to flush out of me.

I still don't eat a lot of protein, so I supplement with theanine, arginine, lysine, and tyrosine.

Beware of anything that crosses the blood brain barrier. 5-HTP, DHEA, SAM-e, and St Johns Wort all created havoc in my system.

One more question: if stress depletes microbiome, would something like intimacy increase it? (that might be a silly question...)

I definitely resonate with what she's saying regarding environmental stress and it's contribution to depleting the good microbiome, though I had never heard this before! However, I'm wondering about the opposite effects. What happens when it's a gut issue triggering anxiety (such as candida, or leaky gut due intestinal permeability from say... celiacs or something) Anxiety can be manifested through the microbiome as well, from my understanding, and does not always have to have an extrinsic factor, hence why people feel more at ease and more calm, when on a keto diet or a diet that supports gut and brain. It's hard to tell someone to be mindful who has chronic gut issues. I would agree that having anxiety, and then responding to that anxiety physically exasperates the situation.
