Flying the DREADED Ryanair 737MAX 8-200 and… loving it!?

In this video trip report we take a ride on the dreaded, infamous Ryanair 737MAX 8-200 from Stockholm Arlanda to Skellefteå in the north of Sweden. And we find that we… kind of like it. In fact it’s a very pleasant flight. Of course the plane is empty, we have a row to ourselves, and we’re in the front row bulkhead (seat 2F), so this is the best possible outcome. But still, it goes to show that you need not necessarily fear the ultra high density MAX. We’ve got lots of lovely views on the way up and a nice landing in Skellefteå.

Fun fact:
People make jokes about Ryan’s hard landings but there is no airline in Europe that compares to Ryanair regarding their safety record.
Been in operation for more than 35 years and they do more than 2500 flight per day and they never had a single casualty. Probably best safety record in the word as well.

To make it more likely the next time, I suggest you choose a middle seat half way of the cabin, on a very packed 3-hour flight, no fast track, and of course bus for boarding!

It's actually genius how Ryanair made their company live in people's head rent free. I never in my life saw a Ryanair TV ad, they don't need any of that, when people hear the name ryanair they immediately think of cheap flights and the masses of Europe flock to their website to buy tickets. No wonder they are wiping the floor with the bigger national airlines in terms of competition. Gotta love that❤

Bulkhead seat really doesn’t count for a pitch test 😂

We're flying multiple times a year with Ryanair, and sometimes with Wizz'air. Honestly, the landing depends of the weather conditions and the pilot in charge, so not Ryanair as a company. Besides the respect of the Priority boarding which they sometimes ignore, we never had issues. In my last 2 flights the crew also called for a doctor, but we could make it to our destination. Knowing we pay less for the tickets than other company's, and knowing the crew is also getting paid by the onboard sales, I always consume a drink and some snack as a way to support them.

I might be a bit biased because I’m Irish but I really appreciate Ryanair. I personally have never encountered an issue with them and they have enabled me to travel a lot more than I would have if flying with e.g. Aer Lingus. They might have the occasional hard landing but I will take it!

Good to see you back in videos Gabriel. Your one hour Ryanair flight did what it was supposed to do, get you there without breaking the bank. Like a bus line there certainly are many people needing this type of travel! The 737 has been Boeing’s money maker!

I’ve been flying Ryanair for the past 21 years. If you go in knowing what to expect, then they are great.

I fly RyanAir regularly, on a route they compete for with Aer Lingus (BHX-DUB).

The biggest thing they have going for them is their ruthless efficiency. They get you checked in fast, on the plane fast, off the plane fast, and get your bags to you fast on the other side. Whilst Aer Lingus use a nicer terminal and have slightly nicer seats, they still ask you to pay for coffee and the whole experience is just less efficient, often leaving you waiting in long queues for ceck-in, waiting for bags, boarding, deboarding etc.

The flight I often get is the MAX8-200 and it's quiet, comfortable and the legroom is acceptable. I often pay extra for Seat 2A as this gets you 3m of legroom and no bulkhead in front of you, plus a window seat with (weirdly) direct aisle access. Best seat on the plane.

I often choose RyanAir over the Aer Lingus simply for this reason. They make the whole travel process a whole lot smoother.

A great video, nicely presented, informative, I love the choice of music, and the quirky observations - I have no idea what that’s for or if it’s the same kid. I’m from an Irish background and I’m proud of Ryanair. To think they are operating domestic flights in far distant parts of Europe. I’ve flown on Ryanair many times. Great fares and service, rarely late, only one hard landing. Thanks for this and the marvellous Greenland videos.

Flew with Ryanair for the 1st time in March to see friends in Spain, very happy with the service etc everything is very clearly priced and explained during booking..booked again to go to Rhodes....if it gets me where i need to be its good for me.

As ex-cabin crew, the SAS-branded deposit box looks familiar to me. I believe it would be where the money/documents would be dropped into using the barcode secure document envelopes. After disembarking as crew, we would seal up the charity collection money, then drop off at one of these deposit boxes at LHR, LGW, and MAN. There was another deposit bank that would accept our duty-free cash and print out a little receipt. Kinda like an ATM!!

I travelled on a Ryanair Max 8 200 from Modlin to Stansted. It was okay, the seats were a bit hard and the legroom a bit tight. But it was fine for a 2 hour flight. Comfort is only an issue if you're on a long haul flight.

The boeing 737-8200 is still such a good aircraft. Comfortable take off and great to fly in.

My experience of Ryanair and I have flown with them probably a couple of hundred times is that their landings are no better or worse than other airlines. They are also inevitably always cheaper then other airlines. Small bag policy is a bit annoying but overall I can live with that. Without this airline I definitely would not have been able to visit all the European countries that I have visited

Ryanair is far to overhated in my opinion, they are a pretty good airline. Outside the fact that they often use airports far from the city centers and you mostly have to board by stairs, the flight experience isnt really different from other airlines.

Flew Ryanair recently. Totally acceptable, incredibly kind crew. As a normal Virgin, United, and BA flyer, I have absolutely no troubles flying Ryanair again.

A flight on the Boeing 737 max is always great if it lands with the same number of parts attached as it left with!

Any landing you walk away from is a good landing; if they can still use the aircraft afterwards then that's better still. The dark landings into Stockholm Skavsta were very unsettling; the planes flew low and slow through cloud and fog all the way to the ground - there was always a collective gasp when the wheels hit the ground!

1:07 The text says "Deposit bag as the symbol shows. Deposit only one bag at a time"
Maybe it's for confiscated bags or something?
