Courts Hilariously Use Urban Dictionary in Cases

"The wheels of justice move slowly sometimes, but not, apparently, as slowly as Webster's New World Dictionary.

Slang has always been a challenge for the courts in cases that involve vulgar or insulting language. Conventional dictionaries lag the spoken word by design. That has lawyers and judges turning to a more fluid source of definitions: Urban Dictionary, a crowdsourced collection of slang words on the Internet."*

What do the courts do when defendants use slang words in evidence? Consult Urban Dictionary, of course! The crowd-sourced site has had more than its day in court. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian break it down.

The last two things I looked for on urban.dictionary: ''Voltaire's angry glove'' and ''Alabama Hot pocket''! It was so worth the research!

I'd pay good money to see Santorum's reactions from reading his Urban Dictionary definition.

I love Merriam-Webster...
Jack: verb "to hunt or fish for at night with a jacklight"
Knot: verb "to unite closely or intricately"

We can't bust heads like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to tell 'em stories that don't go anywhere like the time I caught the ferry over to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe, so, I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. “Give me five bees for a quarter, ” you'd say.

carjacking is stealing a car while somebody is driving it, for example, while stopped at a traffic light. Derived from hijacking.

Nice one. I was going to point that out as well as I watched that video before this one and commented on how "needlessly cruel" he was.

As I said, it's fine to feel that way and I didn't feel differently but to repeatedly say "She's DISGUSTING she's just GROSS she's turning my stomach" even after Ana pointed out that insulting her wouldn't help the situation, yeah that was dumb.

I wonder if he's realised that she'd highly likely to watch that video yet.

I first heard "grenade" from the movie "Whipped" which was made in 2000. So that definitely predates The Jersey Shore.

It does matter how hot the room is, Cenk never takes his jacket off

Well I am happy to say that was the first time I have heard the term "grenade". I learned something today without having to watch Jersey Shore.

Jackin' was a word used by NWA and others 25 years ago and probably earlier than that. The judges are a quarter of a century behind the times.

Cenk: "Thanks God for urban dictionary"

Wolf Blitzer: "Do you thank God for urban dictionary? Do you??"

Cenk: "to jack" meaning "to rob" is derived from "to carjack", meaning "to rob a car from someone".

I'm glad they used it. Some guy emailed a coworker or something about how he was about to nut and got slammed for it.

I really dont know how this one was so unrecognized, I think its just another prime example of Grandpa Cenk being Grandpa Cenk.

At least here in the UK, getting 'jacked' is a term I've heard for at least 10 years. (as lots of my classmates used it.)

"Dap" is ABSOLUTELY NOT the act of "bumping fists together" dap is a "high five" or "low five" or just a handshake.
