There are 209 moons in the solar system but the moon that orbits Earth is the only one that casts a perfect eclipse. The moon is 1/400th the diameter of the sun, but the sun is 400 times further away. We are the only planet that enjoys this mathematical perfection that causes an eclipse.

Earth and the solar system give us extremely interesting facts to think about in its incredible form. The Cosmic Summit event will be a mind bending experience that dives into many great mysteries. Try out the code 'COSMICDANNY' to capture your seat.

It is my understanding that our moon has been slowly moving away from the earth for billions of years. It was once much closer to the earth. We are living in a time where it happens to cause a perfect eclipse of the sun. Happy to be corrected.

Slight misinformation here. None "perfectly occlude the sun" but 5 on Jupiter and many on Saturn are larger than the sun from the perspective of those planets. Thus, eclipses can be observed on Jupiter and Saturn.
