Jesse, i’ve mentioned this before in a few other interviews, well I’ll say it again: you are by far the best interviewer and host out there . Good questions good follow ups, good tempo, No Interruptions, you let the speakers speak. I love Mary. Great you had her back. Lots of new info she shared on this one.

Here's a ChatGPT summary:

- Fiber is often promoted for bacterial diversity, but diversity doesn't equal health; the specific bacteria in the gut are what matter.
- Sun exposure can shift the microbiome more significantly than diet, suggesting minimal clothing and avoiding sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses for optimal sun exposure.
- The bacteria Akkermansia increases GLP1, similar to the effects of the weight loss drug Ozempic, suggesting a natural method for weight management.
- Struggling with weight often indicates inflammation or an unhealthy microbiome; a healthy microbiome maintains stable weight regardless of food intake.
- Problematic foods in the Western diet include potatoes (due to plant toxins), raw spinach (high in oxalates), and white rice (binds to thiamine, problematic with cytokine-based illnesses).
- Oxalates in foods like spinach can be managed by consuming them seasonally and with dairy, which binds to oxalates and reduces their impact.
- Calcium supplementation has been overemphasized; proper mineral balance is crucial for bone health, and boron can help regulate minerals in the body.
- Dairy is a health food, with A2 dairy being preferable due to its digestibility; unpasteurized and full-fat dairy are recommended for their enzymes and probiotics.
- Lectins in foods can be toxic or non-toxic; traditional societies processed out toxins through cooking, fermentation, and soaking.
- Rancid seed oils and omega-6s are problematic for health, contributing to cell membrane issues.
- Social interactions and lifestyle factors like daylight exposure and posture significantly impact the microbiome.
- Overhydration can lead to cellular dehydration; drinking less and relying on thirst mechanisms can improve hydration.
- Natural spring water is recommended for its mineral balance; traditional fluids like broths and teas are beneficial.
- Fiber's impact on the microbiome depends on the individual's health; it can be beneficial, neutral, or problematic.
- A compromised microbiome can be reset by avoiding starches and sugars for an extended period, followed by seeding with beneficial bacteria.
- Iodine deficiency is common due to environmental factors; supplementation with the right form of iodine can be beneficial.
- Light and sound significantly impact the microbiome and fungi in the body; natural light exposure and avoiding artificial light and sound are recommended.
- Weight loss can be supported by balancing blood sugar, using Akkermansia to increase GLP1, and addressing inflammation.
- Movement should be traditional and low-stress, like walking and dancing, to avoid cortisol spikes that hinder weight loss.
- Main message: Optimizing the microbiome and overall health involves a holistic approach, including diet, sun exposure, lifestyle changes, and understanding the specific needs of the body.

This was the most informative well conducted interview I think I’ve ever heard. Jesse, you always do a great job, but this was out of the park! Thank you so much for your great questions.

Wow, Jesse! Your questions were phenomenal!
Always a pleasure to see interviews with Mary Ruddick.
By the way, I have been on the carnivore diet for just over 2 years now. Listening to Mary talk about all of the thought that has to go into eating non-animal foods, makes me appreciate eating this way even more. Maybe one day, I will look into the medicinal uses of plants, but I really don't have time at the moment.
Thank you for listening to your guests and then asking thoughtful, relevant follow-up questions. Also, thank you for not having a split screen! I personally find that very distracting.

I'm always blown away by this gal. There's really no one else like her (unless the wicked algorithm is hiding them). ;)

I learn SO much from her!! She and Sarah Kleiner (Sarah Kleiner Wellness) do some epically good interviews! Also with Judy Cho (Nutrition with Judy) seriously detailed rabbit trails with both!!

BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO!! So many of the aspects shared have radically transformed my health in the last dozen years. Traditional ancestral eating is so wise. And research is finally explaining what global cultures have known intuitively for centuries. Thank you for a fabulous interview!! Mary is brilliant and beautiful!

Top shelf quality content. Interviewer is incredibly thoughtful and articulate with his questions and guest has an impressively deep and broad understanding of health insights that are, at best, glossed over, and at worst, intentionally avoided, by mainstream 'healthcare'. Thanks to both for providing a new perspective.
