On March 2, 2022, the United Nations Environment Assembly or the UNEA at its fifth session voted to frame a global plastic treaty by 2024. Its aim was to create an international legally-binding instrument to end plastic pollution.

The resolution identifies the various threats that plastic pollution poses to the environment and to human health. It was agreed upon by representatives from 175 nations.

Now it's high time to take considerate decision regarding use of plastic.

Legally binding to what extent. It should stem from the local governments resolution to completely ban single use plastics & peoples mindset to come out of it - plastic carry bags, spoons, containers, water bottles, etc. A huge body like UN can pass recommendations & resolutions which we all know on the ground level goes to the same place as these plastics.

Take a resolution to stop using plastics - Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle & Reclaim.

Disclaimer: The pen, papers, digital equipment like laptops, mics, screen, flex banners etc used during meeting & during preparation of this short video all have plastic content or came to the office wrapped in some plastic.

Pros of plastic:
water & moisture resistant.
Light weight.
Durability- can be adjusted as per requirement.
Easy & cost effective to manufacture.

Cons of plastic:
Poor decomposition & toxic in some cases.

Alternate:
Except single use plastic bags all other durable plastic forms can be replaced by Metals &/or woods. But extraction of metals & cutting down woods would put more catastrophic pressure on environment.
Also, its tough to replace water bottles, carry bags & other light weight plastic materials which people use daily just for convenience of movement.

Solution:
There is bureaucratic solution-
1. Reduce population - so that people need less chairs, tables bla bla bla. Less requirements can be fulfilled by wood/metals/glasses.

Two child policy would work.

2. Put heavy duties on plastic etc. These things are non-essential & natural alternatives are available.

3. Reduce people's movement/traveling:
Less transfers in job, less meetings (which require traveling) etc.

4. Ask companies to buy-back its plastic (ranging from covers of flipkart, Amazon to body of TV, AC, fridge etc)
